Psoas release update

So I saw my surgeon yesterday. I’m 4 months post hip revision surgery; importantly the revision included a psoas release. I asked my surgeon explicitly, did he completely cut the psoas; his answer was yes. My next question was will it repair and be as strong as my other hip. Yes it will he said. He said I will continue to see improvements & wants to see me at the 12 month mark.

He said I am doing well.

I told him my leg is still feeling heavy & he said that will improve.

I can walk well & clock up a minimum of 10000 steps on my Fitbit & quite often hit the 20000 mark. I am doing lots of strength work & he said to continue with that.

I know I’ve read on this forum that there are concerns regarding a full psoas release ie complete cut of the psoas. I am optimistic my surgeon is correct & that the psoas will repair in time. He has a great reputation  in Sydney; Australia so will remain hopeful.

Sounds like good news. Hope your recovery continues. 10000 steps a day is pretty good. I rarely hit 10000 though I do generally do 30 mins or so on the exercise bike.

      Hi Michael,

How long ago did you have the THR?  I am a little over 13 weeks, but I don’t feel that I can get on an excersise bike quite yet.

My THR was a while ago but I just had a two stage revision. I did try the exercise bike after stage 1 but it was a bit painful. I think I started after 4 weeks or so after stage 2. I only managed 10 mins at first but now 4+ months on I'm ok doing 30 or 40 mins

I find it easier on the bike than walking. I still limp a bit and find walking uphill difficult but I'm ok on the bike.
