Hello I a. M a newbie here

I am listed for a thr in the next few months

I have flexural psoriasis which involves patches of skin around my groin and armpits only becoming slightly red but not broken

I keep this under control using steroid cream

I am wondering if anyone out there can help me as I am frightened I will be turned down for surgery

The consultant knows I have this but the nurse in the pre op clinic warned me that my skin must be intact and infection free which it is can anyone give me more advice what to do.

I had a the 2 months ago. I have plaque psorias

is. When I started using Dial antibacterial pump soap to shower with and then had my surgery, my psoriasis went away. I have had this for 30 years, been treated repeatedly.

I would not be concerned. Begin bathing with the anti bacterial soap whether or not it clears it up you won't have any skin infection. Good Luck!

I too have Psorasis, in groin, Dr's told me to keep my skin as clear as I could prior to surgery using my cortisone creams.

Come time for surgery my psorasis was clear, so i passed the nurses idea of clear skin.

Remember Dr's prepping my for surgery, I was awake a long time into the prep on the operating table, they were amazed I was so calm, having been there and done this previously with other hip the idea of surgery didn;t scare me, just delighted to be getting rid of the nasty hip joint that was causing me soooo much pain.

They were going to do the surgery via the groin method, but changed their mind after looking closely at my skin, diaadvantage of using cortiszone creams, thin skin, changed their mind and did the incision via skin of hip, about in line with the side seam of underpants give and inch or so, where I had not been using cream for psoarasis.

Don't worry too much, your surgeon is already aware and he has final say so about surgery, so if nurses get fussy, just say to ask surgeon, he already knows about my psoarasis.

I was lucky post surgery, had a really good patch, after that grinding pain from the hip joint was gone, and my psorasis really settled for a nunber of months.

Susan you have already received some good advice on here, so try not to worry. As everyone has said at the end of hte day it will be down to the surgeon and they will want to make sure you are free from infection. Use all the creams etc you have to keep it at bay. Maybe speak to your GP and see if he can prescribe a course of antibiotics for you to take before surgery.

I use a mix, coal tar shampoo, I wash my hair and well as using it as a body wash, keeps my psorasis at a resonably low level, but I do still have horror flares.

Pescription are novasone lotion for hair, and betamethasone cream 2%, thats for face and groin.

Also take 6 x 1000mg fish oil, a day, as recommended by rheumotogist for psorasis arthiritis, it does help with aching joints, found that out with vengence when I forgot to take it on holiday with me a couple of years ago, that convinced me to keep taking it.

But you cannot take fish oil in the run up to surgery, for a week previous, it makes your blood thin and slippery, and you have to work with a Dr also if you are on blood pressure medication, also drops blood pressure.

I live in Redcliffe, a suburb of Brisbane Australia
