Psoriasis - is it for life!!

A friend recently started with psoriasis at the age of 24 years - just out of the blue........................

I am trying to help with the condition they've been to the doctors and been given some steroid cream which is helping a little. Psosiasis is something that I know little about - hence the research, I am interested to know if it ever goes away in the way it just appeared.

Does anyone know of any cases where this has happened.........I'd be interest to know. :?:

I was originally diagnosed with psoriasis when I was 17. I had it in my scalp and all over my left ankle but nowhere else.

I tried steroid cream, salicic acid etc etc.

    Nothing worked.

Then, I turned veggi and virtually gave up dairy products. AT the same time I also got married and my life calmed down. AND I had a hubby who would sit next to me in the evening massaging lavender body lotion into the patches.

Don't know which of these had the most effect but I am now scab free.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Hi Sue i have had psoriaisis since the age of 18 my brother who was 20 at the time died suddenly and i got psoriasis it was the shock that brought it on. i have had it ever since i have tired everything the sun is best thing for it and plenty of cream and oil i work for a gp and the best cream on the market is dovebet which is avaible on prescription. i also think the best thing is to ignore it the more you worry the worse it gets. i know because when i am stressed it flares up terrible. i also use a sunbed once a week with a special tanning cream which really does help.

    hope this helps

Unfortunately it is, you can however if you lucky take it under control, but up for today there is not the cure for psorisasis.

psoriasis is an icurable skin condition BUT there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you go to a dermatologist they will give you all that correct treatment and if used correctly, like me then it should clear up. Mine seems to be getting worse and more sore before it gets beter, so yes it is for life but it can be treated to a manageable level

Yes it is an incurable, chronic autoimmune disease and there is no treatment that will help you get rid of it once and for all. However, there are some things that can help you minimise the symptoms and make you feel like you dont suffer from psorisis. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago and nothing really worked for me the way I wanted, until I came across this ointment for psorisis. The company name is The Body Empire and it has entire line dedicated to psorisis. It worked brilliantly for me, I have no visible patches at the moment.Do you have any different recommendations??

Thank you all for your comments.

As way for an update it is my son that suffers from psoriasis, however he is now on the Humira pen injections which he injects every two weeks. He is now completed clear of psoriasis. There are of course side effects to this very powerful drug. All seems good at this time so fingers crossed for the future. I worry long term about the effects as no one really knows. My son feels it is worth the risks.

I hope you are all able to control your psoriasis to a manageable level it is a terrible and painful condition.

    Good Luck.

Psoriasis runs rampant within my family; my dad has it and I and my brother both developed it in our late teens. My brother’s is worse than mine – it covers much more of his body – but I have developed psoriatic arthritis as well.

As people have said, there is no cure… it is a chronic condition. BUT, the weirdest thing happened to my Dad… When he first got it in his 20s, it was quite bad. He managed to keep it under control however, and he just had patches on his elbows and on his scalp. Then, a few years ago, he had a massive flare up. It was eurythrodermic psoriasis; I had never seen anything so bad. My mum had to rub cream all over his body every night and watching her rub huge chunks of skin off his body before using the cream was shocking. He was hospitalised for a week, but when he was discharged and it had all cleared up, he now has literally NO psoriasis ANYWHERE – even his minor elbow and scalp patches that he kept under control for 30-odd years have gone.

We don’t know how it happened or what caused it; almost like his immune system has just reset itself back to factory settings…
