Psoriasis now heels sore

all,

i have had psoriasis on the soles of feet and hands now for around two years, having various treatments recently having Aceterin tablets that really floored me, I put them in the bin after my cholesterol went from 3.2 to 11.4 within two months and I felt awful. I've been told I will be putt on a cancer pill the name I forget but not keen as I have been reading up and they also appear to be bad also, has anyone experienced these pills I think methotrexate there called if so what's your experience?

I have now began to experience heel pain and after reading some of these posts I dread that Arthritis is the next thing coming my way.

any advice would be great, I am 40 male and trying to remain active but finding it difficult to walk at times, it often feels like I have broken glass in my shoes and can be very painful

    Hi Joe

is it PalmoPlantar Pustulosis? I've had for 18 years, notoriously difficult to treat. I also have psoriatic arthritis, diagnosed in 2011. Initially I was prescribed Methotrexate, which produces wonderful results for the majority of folk. I was unlucky and developed a hepatic reaction, liver not functioning correctly. So try Mtx and folic acid, always attend your fortnightly blood tests, vital so they can swiftly identify any problems. Honestly, this is a fabulous treatment for many, I was unlucky.

hi I have psoraisis and i also have Psoratic Arthritis. i am at present on sulfazaline and about to start methotrexate. In the past i had pains in my heals before they diagnosed arthritis. My ankle is now deformed due to this and the time they found i had arthritis. My wife was reading up last night about my condition on an american site/study it stated that if the arthritis had been identified earlier and treated the problems i have now would have been reduced and slowed down. Know this now i would of asked the doctor to investigate this. It took them two years to diagnose me by which time the damage was done.Methotrexate is a DMARD which suspresses the immune system. If you are to start them you will need injections to boost the immune system as well as regular blood tests. hope this might help. But i would get it checked out asap and put the suggestion of Arthritis it may stop you having the same problems i now have.

Hi - I too have palmaplantar on my feet and hands but not pustulosis. Feet are very painful by way of thick plaque that splits a lot and cuts/lesions appear making walking difficult. I have developed a regime to cope with this but was recently prescribed methotrexate for the condition. After 5 weeks I had to stop it because I had an adverse reaction in my lungs and nose with bleeding and also hair loss. However many people tolerate this drug well and report it as being  very beneficial, I was just unlucky! Waiting to see the Dermatologist again  to see what is next having done steroid ointment and PUVA previously. You really need to request an appointment with a Rheumatologist as well if there is a chance it is rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis as well in order to protect your joints.  When you say you have trouble walking is this because of pain or cuts to your feet or both? I can suggest possible ways of helping with the cuts if that is your problem - please let me know.

I have planta palmo pustulosis psoriasis and have been on methotrexate for about a month. The meds are for psoriatic arthritis mostly but told it would improve psoriasis as immunity dampened.

I had light therapy about 18 months ago and that really improved it.

Was on the sick for months as unable to walk as feet were open, weeping and infected, it reduced the size of the pustules and has only really increase within the last few weeks.

Have you tried it? Might be worth asking.

But don't worry if methotrexate doesn't work or has too many side affects, as you will be closely monitored.

    Good luck

All many thanks for your replies.

the pain I have on both feet I can only describe as a toothache on the end of my legs, it's constant, I have large cuts on my feet and hands that just keep opening when I walk and causing more pain, I was at GP on Monday who says he needs to take bloods but does reckon I will now be getting this in my bones... I am not in a good place just now but thanks for your advice much appreciated

    Hi JoeandJulie

i have just taken my first Methotrexate tablets tonight, I have been started on 7.5mg which i 3 x 2.5mg. I am hoping that i do not suffer any of the side effects. So sorry to hear that you are not i a good place right now. Have you started the Methotrexate yet ? How have you got on with it ? if arthritis is on its way for you then hopefully the meds will help and slow it down for you, which is what i am hoping for. I am male and 51 heading to 52 soon. My quality of live has been affected by my Arthritis but i am in hope that the methotrexate will improve this. i will keep you updated if there is any progress. Try to keep your spirits up easier said than done i know. I am feeling low as well but you just have to keep going and i am hopeful that there is a Med that will help me and we find it.
