Psoriasis with stiff knees

Hi all,

Hope you don't mind me joining this topic on behalf of my husband. He is not very good at looking after himself.

For about ten years now he has had psoriasis on his shins. It flares up and goes down but never goes away. He has been to GP during flare-ups and used the cream prescribed.

Now at age 60 he has very stiff knees and I can see him going worse. He can hardly put his shoes and socks on.

I feel he should be referred to a specialist and/or start treatment to stop it spreading to other joints.

Is it a skin specialist he needs or a rheumatologist?

We are in UK on NHS

Any help and information would be great.

You should go back to your GP and raise your concerns, he may assess your husband before referral but if you suspect arthritis it is rheumatology he would need to see.

      Thanks pippie,

I am trying to make him go back to GP.

He tends not to complain about things and has a high pain threshold so does not really tell the doctor what he should be telling him.

I had psoriasis for ten years before I developed joints pain especially in my knees and hips. Later on I've been diagnosed with psoriasis arthritis by a rheumatologist. I think your husband needs to be referred to a rheumatologist by his GP.

      Thanks izdi and shaila,

He says he will get it sorted. At least we know the route we need to take.

      Thanks again.

    Hi Shirley,

your husband needs referral to a rheumatologist. My psoriasis started 15 years prior to psoriasis arthropy. The longer he leaves it the more irreversible damage will caused. Nag him, drag him but get him there ASAP. Good luck☺
