Not sure my PT person knows about PMR  Should the PT  be different for us.  How many reps do you do. When not there what do you do at home?

Ask your therapist for a printout of excercises you can do at home.  Don't overdo anything, you are at the beginning of what could be quite a long journey.  Don't get so up tight about everything, it is counter-productive.

Hi Karen, I have Osteoporosis, not too bad but it does necessitate quite a lot of exercise to cure it using the natural method. I found a small paperback book which has lots of simple but effective exercise ideas inside it. The moderators would censor my post if I mentioned the title here but if you want the details, Private Message me and I'll send you them.

I think you've hit the nail on the head when asking "how many reps" of an exercise.  At least early in the PMR journey, you can probably continue carefully doing exercises you already do, provided they don't hurt.  However new exercise should be concentrating on maintaining range of motion and maintaining strength, NOT trying to improve it. My physiotherapist has a very good understanding of PMR (she has a good friend who is a rheumatologist and has got advice from her).  Shes given me exercises to help combat kyphosis, but they involve simply getting into a desired position and holding for a while (up to a minute but I can't always do that) and maybe repeating once or twice in a session.  No multiple repetitions of anything.  Nothing fast.  Just gentle stretch using only my own body weight to accomplish the desired position.  She has also added to my pre-existing core-strengthening exercises, but once again, it's something I merely hold for the required length of time, and repeat only twice each session.  If a therapist is expecting you to work maybe with a stretchy band and do ten or twenty reps, your therapist is expecting something inappropriate and you should probably not work with that person.
