PTSD - Don't know how to help myself

Hi guys,

I'm 17 and struggle with numerous mental health disorders the most recent being mild PTSD (due to being raped when I was 16.) I find that I get triggered easily and any mention of rape or my experience sends me into floods of tears and an uncontrollable urge to self-harm. I'm under CAMHS but they don't seem to mention it because I'm not ready to talk about it - I physically can't seem to get any words out when I try to talk about it. I don't know what to do anymore cause I can't cope with this massive weight on my shoulders but I also can't talk about it and I'm scared of it turning into a more severe case of PTSD . I did consider group therapy so that I could get help from other people and have the opportunity to talk about my experience if I want to but not be forced to but I can't seem to find anywhere that offers this for under 18s. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance sad

When at CAMHS go and just talk, not necessary the Rape, just about yourself, you need to be comfortable and trust the person who will try and help you. PTSD needs time so you can express yourself and move on, it is understandable you cannot relate to another stranger.

Sometimes group therapy may not be right for you, many feel unsettled if they feel someone may call people out so again you need time to be comfortable in your own Skin.

Did your report your assualt to the Police and get the Rapist arrested ?

I did go to hospital but that was two days after the incident (and after I had washed) I also didn't know the person and was very mentally unstable at the time so chose not to report it (something that now haunts me)

That does not stop you reporting the incident

Report it and explain your reasoning at that time

Have you tried contacting Rape Crisis?

They would be a good starting point if you need to talk to someone. They are specialists and understand

Hi Lelo, I agree with Shaz, why don't you see if there's some kind of rape specialists where you live, I had to do it and they are fantastic, I still see them but we're getting there.  Good luck, you need to talk.
