Pulling the skin from within

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hello! I had the surgery done 50 weeks ago and I want to discuss one  symptom that hasn't been mentionead at all as far as I've seen. It is from the scar itself. It feels like something is pulling the skin from within the palm. The skin is too tight in the palm. No matter what exercises I've done, no matter how much I rub or how much contact the palm gets with different fabrics etc, the tightness is still there. Question: will it always be like that? Do you feel the same?

Im experiencing the same thing. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago an my right hand was originally worst than my left hand. Now my right has swelling and some redness at the incision. My left hand is worse than right now. It's swollen, i have numbness in the palm of my hand, thumb, pointer, ring and pinky fingers ! Then like you stated it feels as if the skin under the palm is tearing especially if i try to open my hand flat ! If anyone has advice on what this means please post reply or email me

    Hi Ken

sorry you are still suffering. I had my op. just after you and unless these blogs pop up in my mail box I forget I had it done. There is no tightness and the scar has disappeared into the other lines on my hand.

    hope you find an answer

    best wishes Elaine

Hi Ken, had my op. done in November 2014. Scar looks great, almost hidden in crease of palm, but I still can't do open handed press ups. It hurts on the scar site. So I have to do press ups on fists. Painful under scar, but just a dull pain.

Thanks for your answers Tricia, Elaine and Mark! Really appreciated. No sign of the scar, really? Mine is really visible, red and all. I don't mind that much myself, but people reacts when we're shaking hands or for instance when I'm getting money back in the shop she/he always notice it. Maybe laser could take some of the scar away? Since I'm always getting pins and niddles in my fingertips when rubbing the scar (and only then), I actually think I have excessive scar tissue all around it and it's a partial explanation why I still have symptoms. My worst symptom is still the long finger though - it feels like the nerve is cut off in that fingertip. And probably it is, at least partly cut off. Cut off from the pressure, the nerve compression the very first day it all started. My surgeon thought it was possible. Maybe an upcoming nerve scan will tell?

    Hi ken

Yes I know what your talking about, if I open or move my hand it feels like the skin under the scar is opening, this does also feel uncomfortable and on occasions hurt.

Still swells a lot I feel mine and your surgery may be a fail

I still have alot of tightness in my scar area, lumps on both sides and it feels like it is ripping apart all the time, prob due to the inflammation still in it....I don't know what the heck is going on with it, feels like a hole burning through my palm at the scar site...it is also very sensitive, so if anything brushes against the scar area I almost go through the roof...starting my physio this coming Tuesday and back to the pain clinic Tuesday afternoon...I had the nerve block done 10 days ago and no relief from that at all, don't think I will let them do another, what's the point?...I am going to ask more questions when I get there Tuesday, hopefully get some answers. My surgeon is not very helpful at all.

About the nerve block... I thought a nerve block menat the nerve was blocked totally, meaning you can´t move the fingers after that. Sounds dramatic but I must be wrong here!? Is it really possible to block pain signals wihout blocking any other function in the nerve?

      Hi Ken,

A nerve block is where the put a needle with some pain meds I assume in it to try and help alleviate the pain in the nerve that leads to the hand, I believe this to be called the sympathetic nerve, I honestly do not know how it works either. I was able to move my fingers, it did not affect anything else as far as I know except for the eye. They put a freezing on the right side of my windpipe and then inserted a dental like needle with something in it in the nerve, it was totally awful. I had to lay back with head down and jaw dropped opened and you can not move or talk and you can not close your mouth....It makes the eye droop and almost feel like if you had got punched in the eye area, stays red for about four hours....also feel like you have a blob in your throat and beccome a little hoarse like you have a cold....they say it may take 2 or 3 times for this to actually work....well my thought process, it didn't work the 1st time, why go through that several times....i am hoping that once i start therapy, it will be better....
