This does sound like pure o or in other words intrusive thoughts ocd. I have harm ocd where I worry that I have or am going to harm my children. I guess its one of the less talked about forms of ocd as a lot of people are scared or embarrassed to talk about their symptoms but if you have Facebook there are some very good support groups on there. Cbt and exposure and response therapy are meant to be really good for intrusive thought ocd I'm still on the waiting list for them but fluoxitine helped a lot with my intrusive thoughts unfortunately I had to come off it for other reasons as i have other mental health problems. I don't think pure o is an official diagnosis Ann so maybe if you mention to your doctor intrusive thought ocd they will know what you mean.

hi catriona096 working at monent, will send you"site"i came accross later, its written by 2 physychiatrists, takes about 15 mins to read?but my god it was like some of the subject was written to bescribe me?discusses each pure o subject in detail,im sure youll see youurself in there?strange feelings yet relieved feelings that prove you are normal?btw what dose and how long before fluoxetine worked for you?says in this article people with severe deppression feel benefits BEFORE people with pure O ocd?around 10/12 weeks for the latter!

It took me about a month on fluoxitine and the thoughts started lifting they have come back quite badly now since I have been off it but the pills made me go crazy (whole other mental health problem) so unfortunately I can't be treated with meds for my ocd. I have had ocd since I was about 7 (20 years) but only had harm ocd for the past 2 years. Ocd is not curable but It is manageable under medication, cbt and exposure and response therapy. It sounds like you definitely have ocd as it focuses on what you love most and your biggest fears obviously this is why it has focused on your children. The trick to ocd I have learnt over the years is not to fight the thoughts the more you fight them the worse they get. So sort of say to yourself yes I am having these thoughts but it's just ocd. Not a lot of professionals even understand this type of ocd so it could be worth it to go private and ask around a few different psychologists until you find someone whos got knowledge in ocd intrusive thoughts. Also please try not to seek reassurance on your thoughts this might make you feel better for a minute but you will find something else to worry about and it never helps ocd in the long run.

Yes I tried setraline aswell but found so much more relief from the fluoxitine. One of my compulsions that started after I was diagnosed with ocd was compulsively researching ocd to make sure that was in fact what I had and that I wasn't going crazy (sigh) it is definitely called the doubting disease for a reason. I hope you manage to find the right treatment for you and that they don't just palm you off with medication as this does help but it is so much more successful with the cbt etc aswell so definitely try and push for that too. Hope you can find some peace from the thoughts soon.
