Pushing wheelchair

Going to do respite for my sister in March. Our dad has dementia and Parkinson's. Carers come in twice a day to wash and dress him. Rest of the time he is in an attendant pushed wheelchair. I had tkr in Aug. No issues. Other knee is due but am delaying it to do respite. Any advice regarding new or old knee regarding pushing wheelchairs?

i am so sorry but i have my right knee done (tkr) and my left is now giving me fits i got 3 injections of effluxa and am 90% out if pain. Pushing a wheel chair may help strengthen your other quads. Best of luck to you.

has the knee been evaluated for type of knee injury, ask the dr if physio therapy and for a knee patch for pain if needed i use otc patches or would wearing a knee sleeve/ support or walking in spring shoes help .spring shoes are great they take the pressure per square inch off the knee joint as you normally walk, it help heal the area , those have helped me get thru some really painful knee issues , torn meniscus.

have you tried pushing the wheelchair, generally uncarpeted floors are fairly easy with out knee pressure causing stress on the knee with knee support , assuming there on even level ground. perhaps adding a vinyl sheet over carpet areas will help . have you pushed the wheel chair for a initial trial maybe ask for power chair to help you can manage treatment to help you thru the few months ahead. i hope you dont lift that would be tough. i had tkr on my lft knee and both hips replaced. its always something. I am very sorry to hear about your father. Its wonderful to see you are taking such good care of your father. good luck hopefully it will all work out. write a update on how your doing. its a tough time sending blessings your way.

Thank you for your suggestions any suggestions welcome. No need to have to reinvent the wheel as so many people had TKR that thought folks may have some good ideas! Thank you also regarding my dad. We do our best.

R knee is fab following TKR. Ugly scar but hey whatever. L knee is due surgery but delayed due to doing respite. Turns out I M allergic to Morphine and its derivatives. Also had 5 day pancreatic/ibs response to Voltorol gel. Dr feels allergic to NSAIDS now. Always disliked taken Ibruprofen. Came off codeine in 48 hrs as felt groggy and itchy hive response. So had paracetamol ice following TKR. So a little wary of taking meds now as felt so unwell at Xmas with Voltorol. But will follow up on patches. Will look out for sleeve too. Thanks folks, enjoy your day.

Sorry to hear you're struggling so much with your dad! We had the same issue with my grandmother when she was still alive, and it can be quite uncomfortable for the patient and the family circle too.
