PVD and Vision Changes

Hi everyone

I had a PVD in my right eye 4 months ago which has now settled. The flashing has stopped and my vision is fine, thank goodness.

Now my left eye seems different. It feels like I have a smudge on my glasses all the time.

I don't have any flashes which is a relief, but wondering what could be happening?

I was told to call the eye hospital if I had the same problem as before, but it's different.

Many thanks.

Thankyou so much Christine this is really helpful, especially with regard to sunglasses.

I'm really sorry you have suffered a lot with your eyesight. Kind of you to reach out with info, I do appreciate it.

I had the smudge thing, too in one eye after PDV. Kept cleaning my glasses. Now I have it where fine print has fuzzy in areas. When I look at things at a distance, some spots look like I'm looking through a very thin piece of textured glass. Don't know if it's reflection from floaters or what. Have an appt. in about 2 weeks.

The process of a PVD in both my eyes likely caused the RD in my left eye two years ago (successfully fixed, knock on wood), and a retinal tear in my right eye (repaired with a laser). Through my right eye I can "see" a blob floating around and, like you, I'm constantly cleaning my glasses thinking there's a smudge on the lens. My eye surgeon told me that my brain will eventually ignore it... and I shouldn't have any more problems with detachments or tears since the PVD is now complete. On overcast cloudy days I need my sunglasses otherwise I really see this blob floating around. It's annoying, but I keep reminding myself that I can see still. Sunglasses do help.

      Hi Mjcg

Thankyou so much for your reply and helpful advice.

I'm really pleased to hear you got your eye problems sorted. It must have been a worry at the time.

How did you know you had a retinal tear? Was it picked up at your eye exam or did you have flashes etc?

    Hi, I'm an Optometrist.

Does the smudge change position or is it fixed and is it intermittent or there all the time?

What is you vision like when you look through just the one eye with the smudge and is the smudge also apparent without your spectacles on?
