Pvd (posterior vitreous detachment)

Interested in hearing peoples symptoms and experiances with this. I had pvd of the left eye and sure enough 6 months later, right eye. Having problems dealing with it. When both eyes are affected, hard not to think of it 24/7. Would like to hear others stories. Thanks.

hi Matt! The amount of time a PVD takes to complete is different for everyone. In my right eye my PVD was complete within six weeks. In my left eye, PVD began 2 years ago with flashing and floaters and did not complete until 2 weeks ago, when flashing started again. i now have WEISS rings in both eyes...large floaters that swing as if on bungee cords near central vision. They can confirm how far along your PVD is with an OCT scan. i just had this done and both my PVD's are now complete...finally. Some people get traction, like I did in my left eye, where an area of vitreous gets stuck to the retina. That is what delays the PVD from completing.

many thanks hudsongrl
glad your pvd is complete.
i too, like you have a Weiss ring, but only in one eye - my right, which in general seems a lot worse than my other eye. I get this oily film that moves around that i notice from time to time, which i dont experience in the other. in fact, if i hadn't been told i wouldnt be aware i even had the pvd in the other eye also.

my left eye seems to have that film and really messes with the vision. i keep hoping some of it will settle to the bottom of the vitreous. 2 WEISS RINGS IS A LOT:( sorry you got one too. on a good note, my flashing is much less.

hello
i have pvd eye, but also on my notes I see a note that I have 'retinal degeneration'. is this all connected, and dies anyone kniw if retinal degeneration is the same as a retinal lattice? thanks

Hi Lee, I had PVD diagnosed last November after a very alarming drive in the pitch dark seeing electric blue flashes all around my right eye. I had a thorough examination at the optician where they were satisfied it was PVD with no retinal detachment. 9 months later I still get the occasional symptoms for example in the cinema 3 days ago I saw about 3 flashes in the 2.5 hours I was there. I suppose this must mean that it never fully detached, I was told it should be fully gone after 6 months.

Hi Ceri. I'm not Lee, but being a past poster I get the notifications of all replies in this thread. I am sorry you have had this issue it is scary and very annoying too. Flashing lights must be pretty terrifying, especially driving in the dark. But it is good it wasn't a retinal detachment. I really don't know where they get this idea that the PVD's will be gone in 6 months. My second one, which granted is bigger than the first in my other eye, is still very noticeable and annoying 14 months later. I often think my eye aches but that will be psychological! The first one which was in my other eye was much smaller but scared me as I had no idea what it was, apart from thinking a retinal detachment, but I didn't have the other symptoms. That was over 3 years ago now and it is still around. I wish you the best, but even though i didn't get the second one checked out, I would always say to someone else if you have any problems do have it checked.

Hi Lee,
|Just wondering how you are doing now. I am still getting the flashing on the outer sides of my eyes when |I move them side to side while in the dark.
I am still getting the crazy floaters. They are not really black, but more of a white opague in colour. I go next week for my annual eye check up. Interesting what she says this year

Hi there,
Can someone help me to understand this problem which I have, please?
My story is that I am very high myopic with astigmatism, I developed floaters in both eyes and in my left eye I have a kind of flash but I can't say it's flashing light, it's like a light rolling floater in my bottom line which comes from the inner corner and goes all the way my bottom line to the outer corner and disappears, this started in May this year (2019), went to optometrist, she did the exam plus pupils dilation and look on back of my eye and nothing was wrong, she just mentioned that I have some liquid in my vitreous gel but she didn't say about PVD or that I have, then after 3 weeks went to an eye doctor, he did all the checks and again nothing, 6 months going by with the same things happening to me and went to a different optician and she look again and she said that my eyes are healthy, I don't understand and I am super nervous and anxious, I think I am gonna go blind. Any similar stories?
many thanks

I get the exact same thing,I do have pvd both eyes. Doctor thought nothing of what you described. The vitreous fluid having liquid happens when the normally gel vitreous begins to thin and watery when you have changes when you begin getting a PVD.

I was diagnosed with PVD just yesterday at the local eye hospital.
Like you say, difficult not to think about it 24/7.
Do you get the eye flashes several times a day?
It seems to be ok while im resting but happens more with movement.

Hi,
The flashes are there all the time, floaters as well. It's really awful!
I checked 5 times my eye in a 6 months period and nothing is wrong.
I am very scared 😦((

Hi Susana
Sorry I'm just seeing this message now.
Are your flashes any better?
I am going to visit my optician on Monday for a chat so I'm hoping I'll feel less anxious afterwards.
Still getting the flashes several times a day, especially when i stand up after sitting for a while.
Hoping they do settle in time as Lee's have.

Hello Rhonda,
Thank you for your reply. The flashes are still there, every day now, it is very frustrating, but I checked with the optometrist and everything is fine. Let me know how it goes with the opticians.
I'll keep you updated regarding my situation.
All the best,
Suzana xx

Thank you Rhonda. Just wanted to as you, did you experienced at any time during your PVD in the bottom lash line a flicking black flash for a few seconds and go away? This happened to me already 3 times and it's always if I stare at something and my eyes are not moving, I mentioned to the optometrist this and she didn't know what it is, she has done the examination of the retina and everything and she couldn't find anything wrong. This is sooo frustrating and nobody seams to know what's going on 😦(

No I haven't Suzana. Maybe it's a bit like a floater?
I can understand your worry though as i would feel the same.
The main thing is that your retina seems to be ok. If there was a serious problem I think the optician would spot it.

Hi Susana
I saw my optician today but don't feel any further forward I'm afraid.
I was hoping for some reassurance and perhaps some stats on PVD and the percentage which develop into a retinal detachment.
He just went over the basics again and said to go to the eye
hospital if I saw a shadow in my vision or a rapid deterioration in sight.
Never mind🙂

Hi Rhonda,
Thank you for your update. Sorry to hear that, all the opticians say the same thing all over again, if they didn't find anything probably this is the way that our eyes react to the PVD, bare in mind that no one said that I have PVD, they just mentioned that i have liquid in my vitreous, which is PVD, once the vitreous become liquid, detaches from the retina slowly. My flashes are still there, so frustrating and scary at the same time 😦(

Thankyou for your reply Suzana.
I'm still having the flashes throughout the day. Not too bad but you just worry about it getting worse.
Will let you know if I have any change.
