PVP results +/-

I am scheduled for PVP on 12/6.  Have nervous anticipation about the procedure.  I am not a candidate for urolift; the prostate is growing into the bladder.  doc says he can do other procedures; but, my best option is PVP greenlight.  Would like to hear other men's results.  How long was recuperation?  How bad was bleeding?  was catherter awful?  And, life after retrograde ejaculation for both straight and bi men.    Would appreciate any comments from those who have undergone procedure.  Would u do it over?  Happy with result?

Hello my friend.  If I were you  I would never like them do that to me.  There are alot of men on here that have had bad out comes with many of the procedure.  Start with something less invasive.  PAE is good to start I don't know way your doctor told you that he can't do the uro-lift.  There are many doctors that have pull the median lobe away for the bladder neck opening.  Maybe he does not know how to do that.  He would rather cut away at the prostate.  There is also REZUM  that may work for you.  Cancel the surgery and give yourself some time and get all the information you can about the other procedures.  Any procedure that you have to cut at the prostate will change your sex life.  You have a chance of loseing it all together and if you can you are going to end up with retro which sucks.  I can tell you first hand when I had it with a pill that i was taking the orgasm was flat and not having anything come out was like you did nothing at all.  How old are you my friend.  Doctor have a way of down playing the sex part and retro.  They tell us we are not having kids so we don't need it.  But it goes with the orgasm.  Which may be flat as hell.  But it is your discision.  I pray that you make the right one. PS.  Once you have your prostate cut you will never be the same  Ken

I had this 13 weeks ago - had also grown into bladder - complete success - no bleeding except a weak cordial colour 1st couple of days - pain during urination settled down after 6 weeks - frequency after 8 weeks - since then urgency has been settling down.

Apart from the pain weeks I'm completely satisfied. Should be able to counter the pain in this day & age.

Remember we are all different cases & doctors differ too in experience & expertise.

I'm in Adelaide Sth Australia. (Dr Spernat).

    Good luck GM.

Ignore all this crap from people you don't know.It is a simple procedure, my catheter was out in the morning, minimal spurt of blood at begining of urination for a few days and life back to normal on day two. Don't do any heavy lifting and take a stool softener and you will be OK.

It is now the NICE procedure of choice in the UK, Sadly groups like this are for the failed patients as the others have no need to post as they happily live their lives.

I only stick around to try to get some sanity in the group. Quite frankly I've read enough stuff from trolls who probably did not even have the operation.

Exactly the same reason I keep occasionally posting here.

PVP in 2005 and Thulium/Holmium in 2013. That combined laser gives a similar result to Holep as the Holmium cuts and saves tissue and the Thulmium tidies up and seals the blood vessels as PVP does. To get Holep Iwould have had to travel.

The team in Newcastle who did my PVP now only do Holep although they say that it was a split decision as to which they went for.

PVP was a quicker recovery but overall the Thulmium a better end result

So many bad stories. So many misconceptions... so many evidently bad American urologists. Is it the case that working from their office that they are not so supervised as the UK ones who work from hospitals whether private or NHS.

Personally I will go privately for tests or a diagnosis but I want any surgery done in a big NHS hospital enviroment.

I had PVP about 6 months ago and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. Having a catheter is never a pleasant experience, but with PVP it is only for about 24 hours, much better than the week I spent with a catheter inside me 6 months earlier when I woke up one morning, totally unable to pee. Taking it out was not a pleasant experience, but the sharp pain was over in a very few seconds. In my case, there was very little bleeding, really little, except for one time, a couple of days after the catheter was out. I have no idea what caused the blood on that occasion, but the urine was quite red. I took it in stride and I almost never saw blood again that first week and never again following that. Perhaps with a dipstick, some miniscule amount of blood might have been picked up, but not visually and not on my underwear.

I definitely have retro ejaculation, but I can't say it really surprised me since I knew that was a possibility. My orgasms and erections are still strong. Now I don't even think about that "problem" since the orgasm sensations are still quite strong. Perhaps some of the retro is due to the fact that I asked my urologist to destroy as much prostate tissue as possible. He said afterwards that he had lased about 60% away. That would leave much less prostate tissue making prostatic fluid anayway.

I had a problem with overactive bladder for years and that problem has persisted. I take Ditropam XL at night and Myrbetriq in the morning. I also went through a 12 week therapy with PTNS and, since it has helped somewhat, I continue that therapy with once monthly treatments.

Are things perfect now? Not really, but things are pretty manageable and I do have a strong urine stream with no starting and stopping any longer. In the absence of any other treatment that is perfect, I am content that I had PVP done. I know some other posters here have had a different experience, but I'm satisfied. If, a while after PVP, you still have urinary symptoms, remember that it may be overactive bladder and that there are moderately effective meds for that.

I hope this long post is of some help to you.

Thank you henselt and to all who have contributed here.  Having something stuck up where something should never go is quite intimidating and downright scary.  I'm glad to have heard the positive responses alongside the "nightmares".  Flomax worked well for me, but I couldn't tolerate the rapid heart beat; I'd had A-fib 4 years ago and it felt like I was going through that all over again so i stopped taking it.

My doc seems more than capapble, has written papers for the urological association, and performs the procedure only on Tuesdays but does 2-3 each week and has for some years.

I've experienced retro, on a drug, Flomax i think.  It was weird, but I knew it would come back after taking the drug.  After PVP, retro is permanent.  I feel like shooting is part of the sexual experience and am really struggling with that.

Any other men with retro who might comment would be welcomed.

      Thanks.

Tamsulosin did not help my AF and it reduced my ejaculation and started ER. I used to take two days without it and take Cialis instead. Cialis is actually much better to help your flow than Flowmax.

When first prescribed Flowmax my heart rate went from its usual mid 40's to 136 bpm in three days but Tamsulosin for some reason not effect it so much or was it because I was also taking Bisoprolol.

You're very welcome. I did not experience retro, except after the PVP. For me, it is no big deal ... and it's not as messy as the normal way. LOL

As far as I'm concerned, the urine flow (or lack thereof) is a MUCH bigger issue.

We all have our own priorities, though

Gmoney   It seam like your still on the fence about the surgery.  If you are wait don't rush.  I was on Flomax and rabaflo.  Got off it fast.  There was no feeling and the orgasm was flat.  I feel the same as you that the orgasm and the ejaculation go together.  I would never to a procedure that would take anything away from that feeling.  It up to you but you have to deal with whatever you decide.  Some men can't handle it after and live the rest of there live depressed and give up sex all together because the feeling is not the same.  There are some men that it does not mess with them and there orgasms stay around the same but all men are diffrent  we all have diffrent orgasm.  The doctor will tell you there will be no change but that is only in principle and a text book answer.  Life is to short to give up anything.  I hope you make the right pick. It is up to you what ever you pick.  You said that your doctor told you that you can't have a uro-lift or he won't do one.  See another doctor and find out for sure.  They have been working on moving the median lobe out of the bladder with the implants.   Take care  ken

A lot of the later blood comes from the trauma your urethra has suffered from the instruments. The urethra is like a sponge and absorbs blood.

Hello Gmoney...I just found this on another post on Uro-lift  Executive is 64 and had a urolift done 20 month's ago.  He had a median lobe problem and a big prostate  He wrote that he is doing very well.  Urologist have been doing the median lobe with the uro-lift for a while.  I think your doctor just don't want to do the uro-lift.  Please check into it while you have time or check with another.doctor.  I had mine done about 18 months ago and my ejaculation is good and my orgasms are more intence then before.  I had 4 implants     Ken  61
