PVR

Hi All

my question is about PVR

When somebody has under-active bladder is their PVR always the same?

In other words,if the bladder filled to 500mls and you could urinate 200mls by yourself your PVR would be 300mls?

If you had 700mls in the bladder would one expect that you would be able to urinate 400mls by yourself , bringing you down to a PVR of 300mls.

In my case I can only urinate about 50 mls myself regardless of what is in the bladder at the start.

I am self-catheterizing.

I have a weak bladder caused by years of chronic retention combined with bladder outlet obstruction and was recommended a urolift as a quick fix and then when that didnt work a bladder neck incision (instead of TURP as minimally invasive solutions) neither of which solved the problem. Unfortunately these procedures have resulted in repeat UTIs (caused by urolift clips) and partial retrograde ejaculation (caused by the bladder neck incision).

In hindsight I would have self catheterised in a bid to rehabilitate my bladder and address the chronic retention problem, and in parallel sought a second or third opinion on the options.

      Hi Markiebaba

Thank you for sharing. May I ask how you are managing to void now if you have a weak bladder?

How weak is it? Were you able to void at all before your Urolift or BNI?

Or did you have to catheterize?

      Thanks

I can self void if my bladder if 500ml or more full. Prior to an ultrasound I didn't actually realize I had a chronic retention problem that slowly built up, probably over years, and urodynamics showed I had a PVR of 1000ml (without discomfort) even after voiding 300ml+ .

So I can see that after 2 years of self catheterisation, sensitivity in my bladder has returned so that I feel the urge to pee when my bladder holds around 300ml as has some detrusor strength since I can void at 500ml+

Sounds a lot like me. My chronic retention sneaked up on me also. I actually had 2 litres drained when I was first diagnosed.Like you, it built up over years.

After a few months of CIC I can see an improvement. I can pee a little now (maybe 40mls) if I have 350 mls in the bladder. In the beginning I would have had to have 550 mls before I would void a little.

When you say you can self void if you have 500 mls in the bladder, do you mean you can pee a small little bit, or you can empty fully?

      Hi Markiebaba

When you say you can void at 500 mls, do you mean you can void a few drops or you can empty fully?

      Thanks
