Yes I go to physical therapy 3 times a week. But thanks for your response just wasn't sure if that was normal for my muscles to be so tight in my thighs

Your quads are extremely dead...atrophied from months of non use. Typical. Heat on the quads to loosen them up to help with the ROM but after PT, you'll need to rebuild all the strength in your quads, glutes and core. This will be necessary to support the new knee instead of having it do all the work. The plan...

Gym is the best. A therapy pool is great if you can find one. A set of good home fitness bands and a pair of ankle weights would help too. Keep working on the ROM...it does get better over time but you're racing against the scar tissue buildup. The faster you get to 0 / +120 the better off you'll be.

Hi Sheila,
?Again I had exactly the same thing .I had mine done 12 months ago and was not able to get out of bed when I should have because I was very ill on the painkillers. My leg was really swollen for months after and because of that your knee literally cannot bend its so tight .I went back into hospital after 3 months for a manipulation under anesthetic and the surgeon only bent it to 120 degrees even then so, there was a reason for that!!! He could have caused more damage to something he said.
It took ages for my knee to look anywhere near normal even now its a lot bigger than my other knee.
?Here I am now, still trying to get the bend, After a certain amount of ratio it kills me, my quad muscles just wont let it bend it any further. I did all the excercises that I was told and more, and am continually still keep trying.
? I can ride my bike now, but cannot kneel down or do anywhere near the bend that I thought I would be able to.
?I was told before the surgery, that this was a possibility, its not the be all and end all, but do feel a little disappointed because I am not overweight at all and have done everything to the book .I am always trying to build up the strength in my quads because my knee had been very weak for years before surgery, my muscle was virtually non existant. So maybe once your muscle has built up it may be a lot better don't expect too much.
?Let me know what you think... your not on your ownXXX
