Hello,

So I've been taking omeprazole for about 5 months now. It is working great with little side effects (20mg 1x a day). I do not want to take it long term so I thought about going down to 10mg but taking zantac with it. Has anyone ever tried this. I tried zantac alone but it never worked to calm my chest pains but thought I would give it another try. I hear zantac doesn't have long term complication like ppi's may. Any thoughts or suggestions???

Why do you not want to take it long term? If it prevents the pain why stop using it..... Oh I know you are worried about the side effects....... If you drive a car then read the stats of your chances of having an accident or being killed ..... They are scary!!!! You would never drive a car again.

PPI for me has been a lifesaver so I am a huge fan and would worry about things I am eating or other activities before I ditched the PPI

That is your answer to everything, if like me you have no choice but to drive for work etc you take that risk. YOU DO NOT have to take a risk with your health. I have been taking PPI's for 9 years until recently and am trying to get off of them, I did not know the problems they were causing me untl I started this process, no heart pain, no dizziness, no tiredness, no acid YES no acid. There are many other things that you can take to help with acid. You might feel differently if you stopped taking them for a while and realised like hundreds of us do how much better you feel. FACT esomeprazole causes heart problems (I have them), FACT it causes low magnesium, FACT it causes low pottasium, FACT is causes dizziness. GOV.UK the UK's health body produced a paper in 2011 and then again in 2012 that these PPI's cause health problems and that GP's should give you regular blood tests, maybe yours does but mine has only done it once and I was low in all these things. Stop using the analygy about driving, you could die by any means but why hasten your death taking unecessary drugs. I am not anti PPI's they have helped me but would not take for the sake of it.

Please stop going on about car accidents. Some people have to drive, but you do not have to take unecessary proven risks with drugs, Let people make there own choice, they work for you but not for many others. I have stopped taking them and some of my health problems after 9 years have disappeared, Nothing more to say.

You are not getting my point. there is a proven risk that driving a car you might be killed. there is no proven risk that taking a PPI will kill you!

the point is that people get so worried about the small scale risk associated with taking a drug and suffer in misery because they won't take it, but hop in a car which has a proven risk of being much more dangerous but that is acceptable.... It's making people thing about what other risks they take in their daily life without thinking about it
