My Dr. thinks I may have LS. My vulva burns and is sore. However, there is no itching at all. Everything I have read regarding LS states that itching is a main symptom. Can anyone relate to this? Thanks.

I think mine started with anal area itching but it is not a symptom for me since realizing what it was when it moved to front. Pain sore atrophy and fusing... and then moved to the back as well. AWFUL! Using borax soaks has helped more than anything. I use emu oil and emuaid.

      Hi Yolanda,

I see Dr. Nancy Phillips. She is an OB/GYN who specializes in vulva issues. She is located at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ. She also sees patients in Monroe, NJ. I see her in Monroe. I am using CLOBETASOL ointment twice a day and use a mixture of baking soda and water after urinating. I am feeling better. I still have a flare on occasion but I am able to function for the most part. Dr. PHILLIPS phone number is 1-732-235-6600. Best of luck Yolanda. Let me know your outcome.

Thanks alot Maryann! Ill keep this info. I keep getting sores on entre ce sides now again. Is it from rubbing, dryness don't know what to put there I use estrodial dr says in and out but why this still happening ? maybe i need a barrier cream but always afraid to add more stuff there. Maybe good ole Vaseline? Do yiu use anything?

yolanda, my gyn who specializes in vulval skin issues highly recommends Vaseline because of its neutral PH. She says mixing a little with hormone cream can help if the cream causes soreness. I thought it would dilute the strength of the cream, but she said no.

I tried switching to coconut oil for chapped lips but it required constant application, whereas Vaseline does a great job.

Just to add, my LS infected skin has a severe problem in dealing with anything that it is oil based. As the main constituent of Vaseline is petroleum oil, many with LS may get a nasty reaction with using it. As you have found, it is often a case of trial and error to find the one that suits your infected skin the most - such as giving the Coconut Oil (liquid) a try.

I can personally recommend a mix that Nancy KB recommended and that is: 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera Gel and 4 to 6 drops of Turmeric Essential Oil (store in airtight container). It can be applied quite generously and left to dry naturally - smells really good too ..... !

Did you mean to say "affected" skin? I don't have infected skin. I'm dealing with atrophy (hence hormone cream) and LS (steroid cream). I've been traveling so haven't bought an aloe plant yet, but hope to plant one soon to have my own source. Want to have a steroid alternative, though my doc says only the steroid stops LS; everything else soothes. I'd like to try the aloe/turmeric just to experiment, but don't want to let the LS progress if the aloe mixture just soothes rather than stops any advance of LS.

Was using coconut oil regularly last year for atrophy (before using hormone cream). However, after trying c.o. on chapped lips I realized how nearly useless it was. I had to apply it so often, I wondered how effective it actually is for moisturizing for LS. Naturally, if someone reacted to petroleum they couldn't use vaseline. I have never had a problem with it.

Some people need a barrier cream in which case vaseline would probably be better than coconut oil. Though it seems there are many alternatives in the UK. I also don't have a reaction to urine.
