I mean I am with him for one year and he is not showing any symptoms I just dont want to get GW back again. And he probably has it because we were not using protection before and I dont know how long I had it before first outbreak

    Hi amy,

I assume you developed genital warts in your current relationship? If that's the case, he is likely to be infected, either because you've infected him (because you caught HPV from your ex) or because your current partner infected you. In either case, there is little point in him wearing a condom to get 'extra protection' because both of you already have the infection.

There is still a small chance of you experiencing a recurrence of genital warts, but that is unlikely to be from being re-infected from your partner; it's because your body has not cleared the infection as this can take 12-18 months.

The situation would be very different if you decided to split up with your boyfriend and you hooked up with a new partner who was a virgin. Under these circumstances, you could potentially infect your new partner and so wearing a condom would be very sensible, as would him getting HPV vaccinated.
