Question about psyllium husk for IBS

Posted , 4 users are following.

So I was recently recommended psyllium husk for my IBS (mainly pain under right rib and irregular bowel habits)

I've had a colon/endoscopy/other tests so hopefully it can only be IBS.

I bought a KG bag of this stuff as it had great reviews and at a great price

Now, I've never taken it before so have a few questions:

-I've heard taking it in the morning is the best time but that I'm not allowed to eat soon after. So what do I do about eating my breakfast?

-How much should I be taking for my circumstances?

-I've read mixed opinions about this one; how long should I be taking it for/is it OK to take it everyday?

-Any other general info would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Sorry to read about your problems, Who recommended the Physillium Husk to you? This product is basically meant to make you feel full up so I am not sure why you would want to take it when you think or have been tested for IBS. Suprised that your doctor didn't prescribe something such as Fybogel. Have you had the results of the colonoscopy yet? What were they? Speak to your doctor again based on your results he will definitely prescribed something to help.

My GE actually recommended me the psy husk & probiotics. He said that it is great for IBS as it should help reduce bloating/gas and make you more regular (all problems that I am suffering from)

I have read hundreds of reviews that have said the same thing, so I'm a bit confused on that now.

Stupidly, I completely forgot to ask about dosages, etc as this was right after my colonoscopy and I was still quite out of it.

Colon results came back as completely normal, I have a slight hiatus hernia on the endo, which apparently would not cause symptoms.

I wanted to stay away from fybogel as it contains aspartme, and I thought that contains psyllium anyway...?

psyillium is what is in fybogel, its just cheaer to buy it without the flavourings.

you can put it in cereal or drink it in a glass of water. at first take a teaspoon a day then build it up. doing too much too soon will lead to bloating etc.

you can take i whenever you want, just make sure you are well hydrated when taking it

So it doesn't matter if I take it with food? I was told that was a bad idea.

Is it okay to take it every day for a while then?

      Thanks.
