I have not personally.. From what my dr explained.... In the cemented variety, the femoral canal is rasped to a size slightly larger than the femoral stem. Then the epoxy type cement is used to bond the metal stem to the bone. To remove this type  tools are designed for this purpose.

there are many animation examples on line. To visualize it may help.

I go in for a revision on a press fit STRYKER ABG ll prothesis. The manufacturer STRYKER  recalled the prothesis due to chromium & cobalt fretting into tissue causing prothesis failure. Both hips are bionic.. The left one 14 years dupuy hip system..the right hip recalled & failed in serious pain.. Stryker recalled after FDA found complaints from surgeons reported failure of component device after a few months.

be sure not to have cement or epoxy hi used for replacement.. There r many safer & better designed prothesis on the market.

ask UR surgeon his process for removing cemented devices. He will have videos available for better care & understanding of the whole kit and kaboodle.

Thanks Hope4cure, I have had this replacement since I was 17, I am now 60. It started hurting me this past week. Hurts to walk on it. Calling doctor monday. I'm sure it is worn out. It hurts at my hip it is not the part that goes into my leg. I jut dread this with a passion. Do you get the spinal?

Sorry to hear hip revision is next for u too.  A epidural is most commonly used now for many reasons.

Its easier to wake and continue body functions. With cathaters there is always a risk of infection. This way there are less applications for risk of UTI's.

A revision of a hip replacement is generally more challenging than the initial operation according to my surgeon. The results of surgery and the durability of the revised hip replacement are less predictable than those of the primary operation. With every revision surgery, there is some loss of muscular mass, bone, or both. The duration of surgery is generally longer and the likelihood of complications higher than during the primary surgery.

Not a lot to look foreword to just better to have a qualified revision hip surgeon who specializes in hip joints.

    hi cynthia

my first hip replacement was cemented butnot correctly but do not take this that you are going to end up like myself but was through the surgons fault if you have to have it cemented again it takes longer not that much if all gose well i had

complication  through him not doing it right in the first place also it was not him that did it i had to have it redone in may of this yr i only had it done last october through a stupid fall i had at home

he put the wrong size head of the femur in,it came loose didn't lign it up correctly and caused me not to walk till my second one was done  i new there was somthing not right from day one but no one listened to me so i got a seconed opinion this was picked up by the second surgon he did meother op to correct it as i was in so much pain through the mistake of the first surgon

the second surgon opened my scar up and found the fenur head was cracked through no fault of mine plus he as had to rerment it put plates and screws and the shaft that holds the femur i have a scar now over a foot long but im in mt 6h week of post op and cant bend my knee and still in loads of pain

     ask

type they are putting in as i thought i could have been allergic to the type of head and rod why i was in so much pain in the first op i had done.

every one heals up quicker than other's but if you do as you are told then  you shouldn't need it done again i think this surgon as trapped a nerve this is why im still in so much pain as before after all the physo ive had. also i can't walk again with the pain coming from the hole leg and feet.may be im just one of the unlucky ones.if you have to have an op i hope you go on ok take care

6months post hip op....cemented...and i would never have thought I would have been as active!! Went abroad and stayed on a hilly coastline....at the higher end...so three times a day we had daily walks down slopes and steps and back up again....for 10 days!!!....wow!! This was at albuferia in portugal by the way. I built up my walking steadily prior to going so it wasnt too much for me. Only thing i had to refuse to do ...hubby thinks i am actually bionic!!!...was walk on the soft sand as had insufficient firmness underfoot to enable me to walk easily. The wooden walkways were a godsend!!. Go for check up in about 3 months so hopefully the surgeon will not think i did too much too soon. I am a spring chick so to speak though at 55.
