Questions about living with GA

I had surgery 2 years ago and woke up with a circle on my hand by where they put my IV.  It was the size of a cigarette burn.  It has now grown to cover my whole hand.  The dermatologist said that I just have to ride it out there is nothing for me to do.  It is so embarrasing when I go to get my nails done or a massage they think I have cooties.  I need to have foot surgery and I am developing on on my leg right where they will be cutting my leg.  Does anyone know or experienced the need for medical proceedure where they had a circle?  This is the worst thing - seems like after reading these post - it will NEVER go away.  frown

    Hello,

Don't give up! You live in Washington right? Look into Borrelia (bacteria) as a source. There is much evidence to support that this rash is caused by bacteria. In response to the one on your hand, if your doctor is reasonable he will give you a cortisone injection. I had one on my hand that was embarrassing to me and it took 3 doctors but I found one who gave me an injection (tiny needle with small injections in around 4 areas of the circle) there and also in 3 "new" ones forming on my left forearm they all disappeared. Also, get the injections when the circles are small. It's harder the bigger the area is. I went to 3 doctors who told me to just wait it out now I have a great one who is doing research with me and is willing to not give up. Don't give up! Julie 😀

      Hi Julie

Are you saying that you have been able to control it with cortisone injections?  specifically tiny injections?  interesting.  Also, if it is Borrelia, then how do they treat it?

    Hi there,

This is the first time I hear about GA developing after surgery but since we don't know what caused it??? everything is possible.

Personally I have GA for 8 years now, it started on my left foot and now have spots on both legs, arms, butt. Sometimes the circles fade - I have no understanding as to why and other time they are bright red/purple. I was tested for Borrelea but nothing came up. On all the testing I had done, the ony thing that was abnormal was my cholesterol levels which were high. Since I eat well, exercise regularly and take care of myself, I am thinking that perhaps it is my liver which I was told before might be toxic (long story but amalgam fillings is one of the reasons). Anyway, I will be doing a 5 day liver cleanse next week and see if if makes a difference. If it doesn't work, I will have to get a prescription to lower my cholesterol.

I'll keep you posted. Please do the same.

Eventually, the solution will be found.

    Good luck,

    Carole
