Questions from a weight-bearing newbie

Hi all. First off I just want to thank everyone that has posted to others' questions. I have been lurking in the background for weeks reading and absorbing.

So a bit of background. On 05 Jun 21, I managed to break my ankle in two places, while on vacay two states away of all things. I had surgery on 07 Jun 21 where they put two screws on the inside of my ankle and a plate and like five pins on the outside of my ankle. I was put in a boot on 28 Jun 21 but kept NWB. I've been using a knee scooter for most of this time. All in, my one leg looks great and my other as terrible as the one looks great. I've basically been NWB almost 8 weeks now. Finally I was told at my appointment today, I can start walking with 2 crutches. The DR didn't give me instructions, just a timeline of 6 weeks, that he thought I would be both out of the boot and off both crutches. I have some questions because the whole experience scared me bad enough I don't want to mess up and go backwards or have to have surgery again.

For those of you that had to make the transition, did you go from scooter to crutches all at once?

Did you inch into it a few hours more every day?

What about when you're too tired to crutch/walk? Did you just dig deep and keep going or use the scooter to rest your leg?

When did you transition to real shoes?

Thank you for your time.
