Quick question

Evening all,
I have been in contact with the garage i went to view a car out and going back Thursday, i mentioned to him that their is no point test driving because 1. I cannot drive and 2. I will not know the feel of it until i do drive.
So his response is his email was this:
If you’re looking to place an order please bring the following – A letter from Motability addressed to you, a letter from DWP stating the type of benefit you receive and the amount and driving licences for you and any drivers that you wish to be added.
I do not know what he means by letter from Motability because i have never received a letter from Motability.
Please can someone go into more detail for me.
Thank you
Regards,
Natalie

You don't need a letter from motability because you're not a customer yet. What you need is your PIP award letter, your driving license and driving license for those wanted to be added as a driver, and some ID. That is all you need. If you won't be able to test drive the car because you don't have your full license yet then maybe it will be better if you waited until you've actually passed your test.

Once the car is ordered you'll receive a letter from motability with a PIN number, keep this because you'll need it when you collect your car. You can't collect it without this.

So after some consideration i have decided to go with the Vauxhall Astra and put an order in, a basic black colour.
I think everything was send to Motability and DWP for the green light.
I was told my waiting time is 10 weeks and that if i need adaptions i need to sort that out with a company who are specialised.
Hope it is sooner then 10 weeks....
xx

It's very exciting having a new car and i know exactly what the waiting feels like. When i had my current mobility car, it was my first one too even though i only had to wait a couple of weeks. When i chose it the dealers told me that it was the next one to be delivered. The longest wait for me was the go ahead from motability.
The dealers are usually pretty good at keeping you updated. The time they give you is just an average, nothing is certain until they know the actual delivery date. Hopefully for you it won't be any longer than 10 weeks. I know it seems a long time, but just think of all that stress free motoring when you do have it. All you'll have to think about it the fuel. All good thing come to those that way, so they say.
Have you passed your test yet?

When i went back to the dealership i was more nervous and embarrassed as the sales person kept watching me as i was adjusting the seat.
No, I have my test next Friday.
My mother and myself are on the insurance, the sales person said that i can go on the insurance as i provisional and if i pass next week i would need to call motability and get my licence changed. He also said if i do not pass and am not driving before the car comes my mother can use it to drive me about.

I must be honest i went to multiple dealers to test various cars before i made my final decision and all the ones i went to were more than helpful. I wasn't judged at all.
Sometimes people make us feel nervous and embarrassed because we have no confidence in ourselves. I highly doubt the sales person meant anything by it.
If you don't happen to pass your test next week then because you're the actual motability customer then you'll be able to drive the car on your provisional license. As long as the person sitting next to you is over the of 21 and has held a full license for at least 3 years then they will be able to sit next to you. This was copied and pasted from the motability web site. Please do have a read of all the info on the web site, it can be very useful. Good luck with your test next week.
I've only got a provisional licence, can I come on the Scheme?
If you are the customer there are no restrictions to you joining the scheme with a provisional licence, although you will have to meet all other acceptance criteria. Providing you are shown as a Motability permitted driver on the Certificate of Motor Insurance and you are accompanied by your nominated driver who is over 21 and has held their licence for at least three years you can learn to drive in the car .
For all other drivers, certain restrictions do apply regarding provisional licence holders e.g. you must be aged 21 or over, in addition to meeting all other acceptance criteria. For further details of these please contact RSA Motability and check out the Scheme's policies on who can drive your car .

I know you are allowed 2 named drivers and if you want more there is a charge.... Do you know what that charge is? Or does any one know? X

You're welcome. 2 named drivers doesn't include yourself. I have no idea what the charge is but if that many is needed when you do have your car then they will gladly tell you if you ring RSA which is the insurance company they use.
Only 1 named driver under the age of 21 is permitted and they must live at the same address as you. If they live at a different address then they will only be allowed to be added temporary and you must have a very good reason to want them to be added.
My daughter is added to mine and to be honest that's plenty for me. Those that drive your car for you, if you can't can only drive it for your purpose. They can't use the car for the own purpose. x
