Quick question before i accuse my family doctor Please Help.

my hear rate went up to 170 bpm,i was having muscle dysfunction, urinated myself, had a strawberry tongue, cherry red face, breathing was difficulty, felt like i had a seizure, the side of my face went numb, episodes have occurred a few times in the past year and last about 3-4 hours. I went to the er for the last one because it was particularly bad .  The internist at the er discharged me because my blood work was `normal` and he could not find a reason for the red tounge which had returned to normal despite the nurses and er doctor all seeing it, so he said i had a somatization disorder, anxiety. The ambulance drivers had never seen anything like it before,(the red tounge) and neither did the nurses or the er doctor. I got a copy of the results from my family doctor and this is what i found within 2 minutes of looking at it.

02 saturation venous is flagged as high 94% ( range 60-85) but at the same time my Lactate  is flagged as high at 2.5( range 0.4-2.0).

The way i am seeing it is The elevated lactate means my tissues are not getting enough oxygen yet at the same time my oxygen level is too high? or am i completely wrong? lactate levels should decrease in response to too much oxygen?

This is what DR Google told me within a minute a rise in SvO2 in the presence of a rising lactate is inappropriate - the patient who has resorted to anaerobic metabolism (third compensation) should have evidence of a high cardiac output and increased extraction.  This is an ominous finding, suggesting that the tissues are unable to extract.  It can be seen in late septic shock, or in cell poisoning such as cyanide.

So am i right to think this is very bad? or am i going to look like a fool if i bring this up with my family doctor? i have a learning disability so its hard for me to understand it all.

    Hi Will,

I think regardless of what it is you are concerned and need to talk through with the family GP.

Have you noticed if something brings it on? I know this isn't the same as you but, i knew a girl at college whose lips went blue a few times and the worked out she had an intolerance to certain food colourants. Usually blue lips is serious as it shows oxygen deplition but, she was fine when not eating the colourants.

List everything down for the doctor and take someone with you if you can/want to so they can remember things you might miss (I have memory issues)

Hopefully the doctor can help or send you for other tests if needed.

    Beverley
