Quick Question to anyone Post THR

Hello everyone

I hope you are all well. I am 3 weeks post op today Left THR. I am wearing compression stockings, have crutches, taking Pradaxa 220mg also taking naproxen 500mg and omeprazole plus some other meds I've been on for a while. Today, I have noticed on my right leg, the non-operated, that below the knee at the back of the leg around 18 bruises have appeared, now they are not like blue-purple, in fact, they are actually yellow, with some dark, they were not there yesterday, so I am totally puzzled. I just wondered anyone else had this ?

Many thanks as always

I had bruises on both legs on the inner calf area. They were more purple though. A blister appeared on one which grew pretty big.

      Thank you, Ptolemy.

What a strange thing, the very next day they had all but disappeared except for 2 of them. Weird. cry

    Dear Katleen

I am on 150mg of Pradaxa twice a day and was very aware that I had very considerable bruising but as far as I recall it was only to my surgery leg and it was on the day of surgery and for a week or more.  I don't think the bruising was blue.   I put it down to how I was pulled about!   I did not have bruising as far as I recall when I had the original surgery twenty years ago but then I was not on blood thinning medication back then.

    Best wishes, Richard

      Dear Katleen

Very odd. You obviously mend very quickly!

Hi Auntiebeanie, Just replying to my messages, the bruises disappeared like Brigadoon the next day, very strange.

      Thanks for your reply.

Hi katleen yes I had bruises appear mostly on both knees (I had trhr) and was told that was expected it’s due to the op your legs are push and pulled in do many ways so don’t worry it will go it’s nothing you have done take care

Totally normal, you can get all sorts of bruises in all sorts of places.  One person on this forum had a hand-print shaped bruise.  It's a brutal operation, especially when they have to dislocate your original hip. frown

Hi, Rocketman G6UK I think I was more bothered now because on the first 2 days after the op I only had a yellow bruising which only just stretched past through my wound cover, however these coming up in week 3  on my non operated leg was kind of strange, even weirder is that they disappeared the very next day, apart from 2 of them. cry

I had no bruising for the first week or so, then they just appeared which shocked my wife ....... and eventually went away again.
