This is a tough subject since it is well under studied and hard to talk about, but never the less I'll offer my best.

I masturbated once to twice a day through my teenage years and it I used it rather strategically, if I needed sleep or a calmer mood. As I was rather unwell for half a decade and anything helped

After a few years I started wondering if it was rather unhealthy, gave it up for 6 months and on felt worse, mood and physically.

For the most part it is really about how it affects you, as frequent masturbation with some people can be negative and others not. As far as science studies go, results point both ways, but the only cemented facts are that too much masturbation is when you can't help doing and or it is doing damage to your penis.

I'll tell you why I am a believe in masturbation, first and foremost is if you tackle it wisely you can build up your threshold and not be a two pump chump and actually please a girl and trust me, you'll forget all about giving up masturbating if you have a good relationship with lots of sex. Besides that another major positive is it is a prostate cancer chance reducer, mood elevator/suppressor, stimulates readiness for sleep

Some negatives to be aware of, don't snake grip as you will hurt your penis nerves, beware of addiction and if you're low on vitamins and minerals it can be damaging as semen is nutrient heavy.
