    Hi Ozzie

I literally feel your pain - so frustrating. What has your specialist said and how are your blood results recently ?

Turmeric 95% curcumin capsules, as shown to be a strong anti inflammatory and pain reliever, definitely help me, check out info online, 15 years of RA for me it's an on going battle, I have just ordered MSM so I'll give that ago as well, methotrexate made me worse, good luck.

      Hi Martin,

I keep reading of people trying MSM....Please can you tell me what those initials stand for..?? Thankyou.

MSM stands for Methylsulfonylmethane, it's basically sulphur, but some reckon it does remarkable things like lowering inflammation to name but one, apparently you need to get the pure organic 4 times distilled it's comes from a place in America, and don't get the one that is got from crystallisation done in other countries out East, all information about this is online, hope this helps.

    Hi Ozzie

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time. This R.A, is about as bad as it gets....in my opinion !! I'v

Ive had it for nearly 3 years....none of the meds I've been given have helped and they all had very nasty  side effects...!!

How long have you been on Embrel etc..??  I guess you know they take time to 'Kick in'...

Have you got an appt with your Rheumatologist....it sounds as though you need at least a review. The fact you're on Methotrexate Embrel and Prednisolone suggests that they're not having too much good effect.

Have you tried taking Turmeric as a supplement. 1200 mgs seems to be the 'Therapeutic dose which may help the inflammation....It appears to be having some good effect on my symptoms. I'm reluctant to try 'Biologics' because of the side effects and questionable success of them.....just going on my past experience of the various DMARDS I have tried.  I also take Cod Liver oil 1gm and Coconut oil 1gm with Flaxseed oil 1gm and Evening Primrose oil 1gm. I'm currently trying to get off Prednisolone which I've been on since diagnosis in 2013....

The other 'non drug' thing you might try is Fresh Pineapple juice which is also purported to be helpful in reducing inflammation.

I hope something of this might be of  help to you... but I think a further conversation with your Consultant is warranted too.

    Good Luck...

    Hi Ozzie hall

I am on the same med as you and have had RA FOR 15 years now

I live in England and realise that all these post are from around the world

It took some time for the medication to settle down and of course there are these horrible side effects that go with them

I was put on different med and some I could not manage at all...trial and error

People including GPS can't and don't understand how frustrating it is when the pain moves around after doing different things

I work in the building trade as self employed and i have get up in the morning or I don't get paid

But after a day at work now I am getting very tired as I am 53 yrs old

I try to tell myself I am not going to let this ruin my life if I can help it

I try to manage the pain and try to keep moving

I lost my dog nearly 2 years ago and for 3 months did not go out walking. Came home and sat down all night I felt worse and said to my wife I need a dog to get me out again

It worked as I have to take them out

I know what your saying about the typing ..it does hurt and after a while I get the letters mixed up

Keep your chin up and hopefully things will settle down a bit.

    Good luck

Maybe you need to try a different biologic. There are others which work differently to anti tnf. Eg Rituximab and  tocilizumab. Everyone responds differently but your current situation is not acceptable. Your rheumy should try something else.

I thiink it's 3 months for the enbrel to begin working.  You might look that up.  I think you should quit the MTX, that's probably the biggest reason you are feeling unwell.

I'm on MTX, hydroxychloroquine, prednisone and cimzia, none of which have made much difference.   I also take MSM, Curcumin and paracetamol.   By themselves they don't help a great deal but they do have a cumulative effect, still not great but it does take the edge of a little.

I was skeptical about this at first, but give black cherry juice and pineapple juice a try. They have antiinflammatory substances that helps lower pain. It helps me and I know two others who have tried it and they also said it helps. That with the turmeric is good.
