RA medications

After reading some posts here it sounds like you are given a choice which medications you will take, is that the way the doctor's do it? If so, I need some advice because I don't know anything about them and what is the difference between an infusion and injection? I would hope the doctor knows which medicine is best for each situation

    Hi, regarding flareups I 've had RA for 12 years though not serious although when I have a flare it's the most painful thing I have had to face, always at night, never had that explained to me, ( I am a Man, 65, so don't Know about childbirth lol) and I've learned the only thing to do from my experience is see your GP get the strongest pain killer that suits you (I've even had oramorph) and endure and hopefuly like a lot of us it it will pass.    Good Luck.

    From my experience with RA, when you are diagnosed you are seen by a rheumatologist who will put you on various medications. The hope is that they find one that works. In my case They tried me on several different drugs, all of which failed to control the RA. At this point they decided to try the newer biological drugs (over 10 years ago) they have been magnificent for me, however I did not have a choice as such, the drugs were tried to find the best combination for me. As far as the doctor is concerned mine was excellent and he had a rheumatology specialist nurse who was heading the biologics trials where I live and was fantastic. I would trust the specialist. What is interesting is that my GP told me to get some comfortable shoes because my feet hurt lol, little did he know.

    hopefully you will get put on the rig drugs as not all drugs suit everyone.

    An infusion is the drug you have been prescribed given to you in the form of a drip,done under supervision in a hospital/clinic.You won't be given an infusion until you have been on all the cheaper drugs,and you may be lucky to find that you may find relief with one of them.
