RA v fibromyalgia

rheumatoid arthritis 1  year ago but  due to other health issues im unable  to take  any of  the  meds  designed  to  slow  down  the progression of the  desease

Last week my rheumatologist consultant  changed and the  new one asked if i wake up refreshed in the morning i answered no i dont (i sleep on a friends sofa so  who would !!) she then asked if my joints swell i said a little  but  not to bad  (i mean ive seen alot  worse in others) based on these two answers she  change my  diagnosis froM RA to FM when  she  showed  me  all the info  on FM i agreed  that alot of symptoms i have  fitted FM but many were more  consistant with RA after a discussion she conseeded  that i may have  both and i now  have to wait  3 months  for a mri on my feet to confirm wether i  have RA or  not but she says i defo have FM and might have both  tho  she  seemed  doubtful  and  MRI is to "prove  she is right" my  worry  is  after a year  of  no meds for RA my  previous  consultant  thought  he may have  found a way  round it and i  had  some test  the  results of  which were supposed to be  discussed last  week and  me  finally  get  some treatment but never game up  with the new consultant

So now  she  has  changed  my diagnosis im worried  that i may have  both  and the RA treatment is being  delayed yet  again

does anyone else have both RA and FM and if so can u help by explaining the difference in the pain and  where it  is to me

Her attitude towards your illness and the social housing situation was unprofessional and frankly insulting to those who have fibro, good point what did happen to the other consultant? They wouldn't usually change a consultant unless the other one had retired or was off sick or something?  But again that's going to be a waiting game.  The quickest action would be to call the new consultants secretary (while your there ask them what happened to the other consultant as they often work for more than one consultant and may be able to give you a number) and kick up a fuss for a quick appointment with her, write down everything you have to say and tell her you want your original diagnosis reinstated and a diagnosis sent to your GP and treatments started or you will complain.  I went down the changing consultant path and it added another 3 months to the whole waiting game, a complaint to patient liaison (call the main hospital number for that) wouldn't hurt either

i have  done one  better  on nras advice  i have called  the original consultants secetary and asked to see him he isnt free till jan so intead  of  me  seeing new consutant after my mri i can see the  original consultant and see how  he  feels  about  someone changing his diagnosis he isnt free till jan anyway so may as well have mri in mean time after all that  the  sec  said she has a copy of a note  to my GP  from new consultant  and  on it  it says  evidence of a inflammatory decease  so  she  hasnt ruled out RA which is 100% not  what  she  told  me

ive had a long history of  med mess  ups surgeon accidental rupture my bowl rupture appendix mis diagnosed etc etc and have never complianed  when yur ill  complaining is one  more stress to add so i tend not to but sometimes  u  do get to point  where  you  say  enough is enough im considering it

Good call bet your relieved! As for complaints you do have to be well to put in the effort but my brains too foggy to remember, I think the incompetents of within nhs (the rare few) rely on people being too ill to do much, I've made a promise to myself that from now on I will keep dates/times notes of every consultation, result, symptom then when I actually feel well enough will bring up any issues as they can't/won't improve unless people speak up.
