hi everyone
Just wondering about the racing heartbeat side effect, i'm having a pretty bad time, crying so much but i'm scared of side effects, i was reassured yesterday and on the verge of taking my first one but then stopped. Earlier this year i was taken to hospital with a racing heartbeat and it scared me to death, i'm worried about that happening again because of these meds, has it happened to many people?

anything, and i repeat anything can happen with prozac. The side effects can be not so bad or hell on earth driving you to be insane. everyone is different. most people do experience a racing heart beat so yes this is very normal. if it is getting to the point where it is very high then please dont ignore it and see a doc. anxiety and any symptom you had before you started prozac can be magnified times 10 in the first few months of treatment until your body gets used to it. after the crazy and hard times in the first few months you will start feeling so happy and well again, i promise!

Hi
Dont be scared. I take my fluoxetine at bedtime so i sleep through the majority of side effects. Give it in between 2 - 8 weeks to feel the difference. You will feel better. Best thing i ever did. Let us know how you go on xx

Hello
Hope you're doing better.
PANIC attack?
i'm sensitive to psychotropic med.
Uncomfortable side effects. Nurse told me "your body is trying to adjust to med"
i'm on PROZAC for 6 weeks. NO relief yet... My hands are shaking...side effect

Hi I have suffered terrible with this especially at night and took propananol beta blockers for a while to calm this. They are honestly amazing and I rarely need them now but don't suffer and put up with it ask your GP for a low dose to help you while your body is adjusting.
Good luck! I just wish I could sleep as keep waking up at 4am hence my reply at this time 🙂

I had really bad side effects on 20 mg and decreased to 10 mg. I am still having the racing heartbeat occasionally but then it goes away. I just know it’s all part of it so that helps me calm myself down. To me, it was not worth staying on the medication…tiu have to ask yourself "is it worth it"? if you can combat the side effects, and I would do it. There is a blood test out there that you can take to see what medications suits you best… Maybe try that before starting Prozac?

when starting the med i was a bit scared as well, as i was already really anxious and having palpitations and stuff, but im on day 11 and haven't had a racing heart. Just a bit of insomnia and teeth grinding occasionally

Actually my first panic attack has happened after I had racing heartbeat and was in emergency. All of these have happened million times again once I have started with flouxeting, but then just one day I couldn't remember when I had my last one. I am two months on 20 mg. Could be that the racing heartbeat is how your anxiety or depression shows. So, if you have confirmed with your doctor that you heart is just fine try with it and be patient and strong. It will be tough two months.
Best,
Danica

i was taken to a&e in march due to a racing heart, had loads of tests that all came back fine, no one asked me about anxiety and i didnt put two and two together but maybe thats what it was. i'm on day 3, last night i had a bit of a moment but i did some calming breathing and got up to do stuff to distract myself and it calmed down which makes me think it is anxiety based. i hope you're doing ok

Yes, I am quite fine now, after two months. Honestly, I am seeing a psychotherapist once a week and meditate at least before I go to sleep. There are some good app as Calm, see if you can download it as well and hang in there with all the help you need. Nevertheless, the fluoxetin is not about to resolve all on it's on, you need to help him, you need to work on yourself and try to be as happy and calm as you can each day. Hope for you to feel just as I feel now, and I agree with one comment above, if you even get hearth beat that is unsual get your GP and advice for some beta blokator or so, this will help for until the flouxetin starts working. Hope to see you after a few months encouraging other people here that are going through the same you are now. We are there for each other!

I had the racing heart beat so bad that my Dr had me wear a heart monitor for several days. Everything came out fine. Was either the start up of the Prozac or my anxiety or BOTH.
You will be fine!Starting a new anti depressant IS hell.If you can deal with it long enough (maybe weeks to months) then you will be fine in the end!
