Rambler 8 weeks post op

At 65 I'm 8 weeks post op, threw away my sticks after 2 weeks, do all the exercises and taken short walks daily. As said by some, i think I'm over doing it and rushing things, as I'm feeling pain in my but and thigh when I've been doing so well. I'm not seeing my surgeon until 12 week post op. Had no contact from physio since the day i left hospital, day after op. My bugbear is, i was told I'd be better for it after a THR but after reading many of your posts, it sounds like l will always have to be careful for years to come. I'm a rambler and worried that i may never get back to hill walking like i did before. wishing i had left well alone now. My pain before the op was after activities and after resting, very stiff and pain. I could walk miles. i took prescription pain killers but don't want to have to take them after the op. any ramblers out there after THR? would love to hear how you are doing.

Totally relate to what you are saying. I used to walk a lot and then like you take some painkillers. I am now 14 weeks post op. Walking is still difficult but just recently managing a gentle bike ride. Hoping to re-build the wasted muscles to manage long walks again. It is getting better and I felt 3 months was the turning point. 8 weeks post op is still very early days. It will get better it just takes patience.

hi fran1968
thanks fir tour reply. I guess you're right, i need patience but i truly expected to be able to join my walking group and get back to long hill walks again. 8 weeks isn't long but many are saying they still have problem after a year some longer. its difficult when I'm not seeing my surgeon for 12 weeks but this forum is very helpful.
Good luck with your recovery.

Hi lil5015 I feel your frustration. I was quite lucky just 8 weeks post op before I saw my consultant but 10 weeks before I had any face to face physiotherapy. Both appointments really helped so I am sure you will be striding ahead after yours. Maybe I was naive but I didn't expect recovery to take so long - should have looked at this forum pre-op ! Good luck with your appointment.
