Ramipril not working

Hi

Diagnosed with high blood pressure. This was before xmas. Given an ecg? and all ok and Ramipril. Dose of 2.5 given and had a few weeks of monitoring. This upped to 5 again for a month or so, and no change. Increased to 10mg? and have been on this for about a month, and again, no change. Seeing the doc again in 3 weeks time.

In between this time had a day of what felt like my heart skipping a beat - went to the local hospital myself and they checked me out with an ecg and said all ok..

I am 48 and well overweight. Also tend to get stressed out.

Anyone had this medication not working?

I suspect that you are expecting Ramipril to resolve your high BP without any effort by yourself. Your obesity will not be helping and this will cause you to become more anxious about the continuing high BP. Having to increase your Ramipril will also exacerbate the problem. Deal with the weight and try to manage your anxiety and you will find it helps. Feeling good about getting on top of your weight problem will help both your mood and your BP. Your GP should be able to put you in touch with a dietitian and the involvement should help you to commit to improving your lifestyle. My BP didn't improve until I addressed all the aspects of my health. Best of luck

Well, I;ve been on Ramipril for just over 2 months now. My blood pressure was OK before, I had lost 3 stone this year through diet and excercise and was feeling really good about life. Then BOOM !!!!!!! sat watching TV one evening and around 10:00pm had a huge palipitation that lasted about 10 seconds. Ever since that moment I have had high blood pressure, chest pains, murmerings, flutterings etc etc in the chest area.

GP prescribed me ramilpril, I started daily monitoring of my BP which was averaging around 138/90. Over the last week the Rampiril doesn't seem to be having any effect and over the weekend my BP went to 142/101.

I've no idea whats going on. It's scary and the drugs appear not to be working at all. I started on 2.5, then 5, and now on 10mg of ramipril a day.

Also they tried to put me on indapimide, that just made my heart rate go to over 100 24 hours a day with a constant thumping in my chest, even during sleep. So came off those straight away.

My point is, I lost 3 stone, down to 17st 12lb from 20st 12lb last December, was the healthiest I had ever been and still this happened.

Still at a loss as to what occurred that night, it hasn't happened again and the doctors say there is nothing wrong with my heart after several ECG's and a trip to the chest clinic. I'm now going to pay for a private consultation as I have lost faith in the GP.

Just thought I would share my two cents.

    Jeff
