Ramipril symptoms

I've been on it for about a year after being taken off a beta blocker. The list of possible side effects in the blurb which comes with the pills is endless and I've always suspected that you can can imagine most symptoms if you think about them enough. But.... I was struck by the frequency of people reporting throat irritation and coughing, on this site. This is exactly my experience and it's driving me nuts. I've developed a continuous need to clear my throat which irritates my wife and others. Codeine linctus, (prescibed), helps at night but you can't take it in the day. I'm also feeling leg pain and fatique whilst walking and probably accelerated hair loss.[/code]

I have been taking ramipril for about a year, I have constant dry cough which is driviing me and everyone else nuts, tickly throat feels like liquid running down it all the time, rumbling in the ears like a car ticking over in the bedroom, constantly out of breath and regular cramp. Had a severe muscle spasm 6 months ago and was in hospital. Then a friend of my Fathers said she was like that until she stopped taking it. I never realised it could be the ramipril.

Hi i got up early today Sunday!! Ramipril what has done to me, well firstly i've been suffering from on and off raised blood pressure for 20 years and i'm only 41. The coincidence is i have Kidney cysts but hey it's nothing to do with that!! or so i'm told. Got up early because i felt like rubbish, i take my Ramipril before bed as reccomended, so if you do experience side effects at least your asleep ha!

Side effects dry cough and throat all day but in particular after the first 30 mins of taking the tablet, aching aching joints now all the time and i do a lot of sport it's very frustrating, left arm and fingers going dead in the night and swelling of hands and feet sperodiacally. absolutey exhausted and it's took me 3 weeks to come out of a cold.

it has however lowered my blood pressure lol

    Yikes !

I also play a little sport (& similarly am just the wrong side of 40)....but if my cough continues I'll be re-evaluating the drug regime, this is not an acceptable alternative to having high BP but feeling absolutely fine !!

In your shoes, I'd be asking the doc many questions !!!

    cheers

    Mike

There are alternative drug treatments for high BP. I found the side effects of ramapril just too much to handle. I mean you will live longer, but be bloody miserable. I went back and seen my GP and told her straight I had stopped taking it as it was causing my so much grief.

My GP put me on Amias, a angiotensin II antagonist. Ive experienced zero side effects and my BP is lower. Anyone experiencing unaccetable side effects should go back and see their GP.
