Aged 55, went to see my doctor for the first time in years, I was feeling awful, thought it was the menopause, I was diagnose with an underactive thyroid and put on thyroxine of 50mg, this was later increased to 100mg, on the first visit was also told that my B.P. was 190/99 and was put on Ramipril 1.25mg and then again later increased to 2.5mg. Still feeling dreadful, tired, dizzy, palpatations etc. Have now halved my Ramipril to 1.25mg, also bought a B.P. monitor, same as doctors and my average weekly B.P. reading is now 127/72. Not sure whether to quit the Ramipril altogther, also feel that the thyroxine medication is too strong. Would just like to feel like my old self again!!!!!!!!!!!

Any answers??????????

Have just been diagnosed as having an under active thyroid am being seen by the number one throid specialist in the country he reccommeded a book tears behind closed doors by diane holmes. I suggest you buy it. It sounds to me like your thyroid is not being treated sufficiently or you are not converting T4 to T3 adequately, which throxiine does not do. Ask for T3 and T4 blood tests and if you converting normally, not just the bog standard TSH blood tests will do. If your doctor wont do it for you then get it done privately and send it to genevo diagnostics in surrey they will do a full thyroid test for you costs £150 including having the blood drawn, well worth it as the NHS will only fund the very basic test and it is not a true refelction of your thyroid activity. I have been ill for 6 years and this doctor has totally changed my lilfe. This book will open your eyes and point you in the right direction. Let me know how you go. Good luck and good health to you. :D

1st time I have viewed this website and read comments on Ramipril which I have just been prescribed. I am not happy with it and it seems I am right so to be. I am in my 70s. I am going 2 try alternative herbal. Hawthorn recommended highly as a daily infusion or steeped in Brandy for 2 weeks (see herbal medical books)

Regarding Levothyroxine, have been on this for approx. 15 yrs. very high dose. Decided to tell GP I wanted 2 reduce dose. Now just about to try 125mg. Have gone from 200mg. It can be done if done gradually. Good Luck
