I have been taking Bethahistamine 16mg x 2 3 times a day and felt near normal. Last night my meds ran out so could only take 1 16mg until i could get more this morning. All day today i have been dizzy and fullness in the ear. Has anyone else gone backwards after missing one tablet ???

I have been prescribed beta but where do you get it..

You take your prescription to a chemist.  There should be no problem if you are in UK but not sure you can get it in the US.

definitely, I feel that way just being late by a couple of hours and I seem not to feel right for a couple of days. Sorry you had to find that out the hard way.

In shock that this would happen just missing one tablet.. I am paying for it now. Had 7 days of normal life before i missed that tablet, now back to square one. Had a meal booked for tonight as well but looks like i will be in bed instead x

I guess the best way to look at it this, The pills only control the disease, once they are out of your system there is no longer anything there to keep it under control just like a diabetic and insulin.

I was on 16mg x3  3 times a day and dropped off one pill per week to get down to nothing. Within a week of coming off all meds i was feeling dizzy and fullness. Didn't have full on vertigo but reminded me what it was like and I am back up to 16mg x 2  3 times a day. Will probably go back to the 3 i was on and see if everything settles down. I seem to be more light headed and have to be more careful turning my head than before but my memory is not great so not sure if my  memory is painting  a more rosy picture from before.

Same happen to me. I ran out of my tablets and on that same day i had my worst meniere attack so far. That was 2 weeks ago and im still paying for it. I think i have had 2 good days since then so really feels you start from beginning..

I took one 16mg instead of 32 but had proper amount in the morning... it may be a coincidence and the attack was coming anyway ..

I have looked at some of your replies and it seems that the common factor is the relatively low dose of betahistine you are taking. Also it needs time to work.

My consultant, having confirmed the diagnosis, and noting that I was not fully controlled tripled my dose from 16mg to 48 mg three times daily, and told me if I remained attack free for 6 months I should then wean myself off.  That strategy worked and I had a full remission period of 21 months.

His advice was also that if the warning signs of MD returning (Ear fullness, unstable tinnitus, dizzy spells) occurred to not wait for a full blown attack but go straight back on the high dose and increase it further if necessary. The reasoning for this is that each major attack is very likely to cause further hearing loss which is not reversible.

I got the warning signs again at the end of July so did as advised. The signs subsided over 2 or 3 days which was good but about 6 weeks later I had a sudden vertigo attack for a couple of minutes which left me feeling unsteady and unwell. I always carry buccastem and took one straight away – fortunately that worked OK. As a result I have increased my dosage of betahistine to 64mg tds while I wait for a review with the consultant.

This seems to be working OK.

Suggest you ask your consultant to review your dosage. Good luck.

That sounds like good advice.. I actually upped myself to 32mg 3x a day and when i saw the consultant he agreed that was ok. Think i will carry on with that and maybe up it to 48mg if i feel an attack coming on.
