Random facial swelling from no apparent cause?

Posted , 3 users are following.

for the past few years, my upper lip has gotten swollen out of no where. i thought that it was due to an allergy of artificial coloring (food dyes) and ive completely eliminated it from my diet.

over the past week, my eye has also gotten swollen and my jaw/cheek area. with each swelling, it happens very rapidly and never exceeds quarter-size. it does not seem to be from an allergy to something consumable. Benadryl takes the swelling down but it will often take more than one dose to go down entirely. any ideas of what this could be? any help is appreciated.

Hi Alissa! Well, swelling of the lips and eyes is usually due to food or topical allergies.

I would advise you to do some food tests (with a doctor's supervision) to find out if it's perhaps some kind of nut or lactose.

If it is not a food allergy, it could be a topical allergy to some cream or perfume.
