Hi all,

5 months ago my eyes became totally bloodshot. This lasted for around 10 days and the redness went down however my eyes now have pinkish veins in the white part. almost like squiggly lines. However occasionally there are times were both of my eyes will flare up and the pinkish veins will turn red in colour and i will also get little red blotches in other places usually near the centre of my eyes (almost touching the coloured part) on a day to day basis there is no pain and hardly any discomfort (the way my eyes were before) there is still no discomfort even when I get these flare ups, I wouldn't know if i didn't look in the mirror. The appearance however is really knocking me socially and emotionally. My gp just says its dry eyes, the optician said I have blepharitis which just does not fit with the symptoms. Can anyone help and give me some indication on what you think this is?

If anything there seems to be slightly more mucus in/around my eye but nothing over the top. please help sad

Hi I had red eyes for over a year which also got me down I looked like I had been drinking every day. I tried every drop you could think of but nothing worked and they did not know what was causing it. I was referred to the hospital and was put on steroid eyes drops which cleared it instantly. Although when these weaned off it come back. I then was put back on them on a low dose for months eventually my optician said my eye pressure was high and should come off them, was weaned off them and he gave me an anti allergy drop and have no problems since. It was a mystery how they came and went. I felt really down when I had red eyes like you. Hope this helps .

      Hi finley,

With my eyes, on a normal day (if they do not flare up) they do not actually look that bad, i would have to actually look very closely in the mirror with a bright light to see them. This is why i am scared to use things with the thought of making them more noticable. But still my eyes aren't white like it used to be so something is causing this problem,

Your story is crazy but Im glad it cleared up, I am hoping for the same I hate going out. Do you know the name of the anti allergy drops that you were given? Also are you in the UK? my gp won't refer me to a eye doctor sad

Hi the drops were called Azelastine 0.5 drops on prescription. I just use drops for bloodshot eyes which you can buy over the counter by Optrex. I just use them when I am tired or just woken up, good luck Bev
