Random throbbing head pain and pressure in right side

Posted , 138 users are following.

For over a month now, I've had an infrequent throbbing pain & pressure on the right side of head. It appears randomly, and occurs much more frequently when I'm stressed. Although, when I feel fine it will still appear, just not as frequently.  It's always on the right side of my head, near the top but will occasionally be at the back of my head too. I will feel it every single time when I wake up, without fail. That's the only time I can guarantee it'll be felt.

I've had a CT scan done a few weeks ago which came out completely clear. I was thinking that it was my sinuses acting up, so I went to an ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) specialist, but they couldn't find anything wrong.

I don't know what else it could possibly be. I'm starting to think that it may be my neck, but I'm not entirely sure ...

Anyway, here's a summary:

* Throbbing in head on the right side

* Infrequent (appears at random)

* Appears every day

* Brings my mood down completely whenever it occurs

* Had a CT scan; was completely clear

* Sinuses are completely fine, and are clear

Please help.

    I am curious what diagnosis if any you have got yet.... 3 weeks ago I felt a lighting bolt go thru my head from the base of my skull to the top and now I have had a severe throbbing pain behind the right ear area, it started along the jaw and teeth, I went to the dentist, they did a root canal, but that did not fix the problem, went to the Chiropractor, still no relief... I have searched high and low for anyone with symptoms like mine. I have suffered from migraines for 30 years this is not the same. My migraine meds don't touch it!!!

      The Neurologist put me on Xarelto blood thinner to get rid of the blood clots in the brain. The tumor behind my right eye they have not figured out what they are going to do with it yet. I also had a bad ear ache on the right side when all this started.

      I will say when the horrible pain on the side of the head started that pain medicine wouldn't relieve it. I also forgot to tell you that the first stages was just me being dizzy constantly all day. I hope this helps and I'm not saying you have what I have but if I can help anyone it is worth me mentioning this.

      Well thankfully when I went in to see my surgeon because I am having back surgery I told him of my ordeal that has been happing the last seveal weeks he said lets do an MRI and it turns out that I have a herninated disc in my neck. I had no idea that it could cause the pain that I was having, So I suggest seeing a doctor and because it could be something simple to something serious.

    I had the same problem for months. Turns out it was a tooth that really hadn't given me too many issues I thought but I had been putting off a root canal for years because it really didnt hurt much or often.

    I am afraid the same thing is to happen to me, and. Hake the same "symptoms" and afraid of the same EXACT things. And I'm afraid to think of it. If you find or found any answers please respond to this thanks.

    Hi everyone. Not sure if anyone has found a diagnosis behind their pain, but for the past week I've had the same horrible pressure in my head. Mine came with dizziness, confusion and pains in my nose and eyes. I went to emergency twice and had a cat scan and full cranial exam, everything came out positive. They said it's a cluster/stress headache brought on from all the stress I'm going through lately as well as sinus problems.

    I have no relief from this at all. The best thing you can try to do is get some serious R&R in. I've had nice long baths and glasses of wine outside with music on and it has helped immensely. Just focus on the things that really calm you down personally and do them non stop. Getting yourself in a better mindset always helps too, I'm a chronic stress head and over thinker with severe anxiety and I've had to stop myself from flying off the handles with anger at the tiniest thing. Every time I find myself getting angry I stop and think "there could be much worse". If you're really worried it's always best to get a check up but it's unlikely that it's anything serious.

    I believe strongly that I'm fine because a few minutes ago I had an argument with a friend that left me hyperventilating and crying, and now I've got that horrible pain in my head again. So off to lay in bed with a nice show on TV I think! Best of luck to you all

    Hi

    Hope you're feeling better by now. It seems a lot of people are suffering from this. I used to get the same symptoms but less frequently than a lot of the people here. At the same time a relatively frequent batch happened I came down with a case of shingles at the same time. When I visited the doctors about this I mentioned the headaches and she confirmed it was all in relation to stress (due to my recent University disertation and final exams). I was perscribed tramadol incase of the pain from shingles and R&R and it all left after about a months time of far less stress.

    Then I went into my currecnt field of work and 2 years into my career and in the second year and second job (far less stress than the first) they came back, just the headaches. I was suggested an eye test and low and behold I needed a small prescription, which has ironed out pretty much all the problems.

    So there is my 2 cents. Obviously go to your doctor but if all that fails some rest and escape from the stress if possible and an eye test.

    EVERYONE...PLEASE read this.

    I have had pain exactly like this since I was @ least 8 years old! My doctor said it could be coffee... since I had been trying it for the first time .Im 51 now and I have it back again.This is very common in some people it seemsI dont worry about it anymore. I just had a tooth pulled ( that had a root canal in it and that SAME PAIN was on my left side this time.) The pain was there before I had it pulled . Tooth area did not even hurt....just my head.Numerous things can sit off these head pains n throbs. I never get headaches . just the intense pain throb at different times of the day

    I just drink lots of WHITE tea and eat ginger this always clears up any infection in a few days Sugar seemsvto FEED the pain...so I cut it out too. DONT WORRY.....it will go away!!

    If you are dizzy or more than just the sporatic head pains .....then maybe get a check up.

    I had a cold and chest infection and just couldn't shift my cold for about 10 weeks started to feel bit better December time at the same time I started a new job in an office on computer all day and telephone. I have for almost 6 weeks now had this pain in my left hand side of head by temple and side of head and behind eye which is worsened by coughing, sneezing and bending down this has been here every day find its worse in evening and morning. Also I'm finding rather than my nose running down my nose it's running down my throat which wakes me at night choking which kills my head it's always on the left of my head and this morning I've noticed some numbness and tingling on back right of my head I was also worried about a brain Tumor when I press the area it relieves it a bit but as soon as I let go it's back I went to doctors and they have told me it's sinusitis and given me antibiotics I'm not convinced anyone had anything similar as I'm worried and not sure I'm making it worse by worrying my blood pressure was also high they want me to have blood pressure checked again in a month. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

      Karen it definitely sounds like sinusitis. I wouldn't worry about it being a tumour at all. Your symptoms are exactly what I get at the start of every month as my immune system is low so I'm very prone to severe sinus blocks. If the pressure eases up as you touch your head it's definitely nothing to worry about. Try not to stress too much about it and see how the antibiotics make you feel. I also find that sudafed or any antihistamine helps a lot with that horrid head pressure. Best of luck and keep us all updated on how you're going. I hope the pain eases up soon I know all too well how scary it can be to get those horrible sinus blocks.

      Also if there's dusty air vents in your office or the phone/computer your using wasn't washed down effectively between employees that can contribute to dust getting stuck in your sinuses and that may be why you find yourself feeling worse in the evenings after work.
