Random throbbing head pain and pressure in right side

For over a month now, I've had an infrequent throbbing pain & pressure on the right side of head. It appears randomly, and occurs much more frequently when I'm stressed. Although, when I feel fine it will still appear, just not as frequently.  It's always on the right side of my head, near the top but will occasionally be at the back of my head too. I will feel it every single time when I wake up, without fail. That's the only time I can guarantee it'll be felt.

I've had a CT scan done a few weeks ago which came out completely clear. I was thinking that it was my sinuses acting up, so I went to an ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) specialist, but they couldn't find anything wrong.

I don't know what else it could possibly be. I'm starting to think that it may be my neck, but I'm not entirely sure ...

Anyway, here's a summary:

* Throbbing in head on the right side

* Infrequent (appears at random)

* Appears every day

* Brings my mood down completely whenever it occurs

* Had a CT scan; was completely clear

* Sinuses are completely fine, and are clear

Please help.

    I am really worried about my health, I feel that way too. Im afraid it might be a symptom for stroke or whatever. Please help me, Im afraid to tell my parents because they might bring me to the hospital and it would cost a fortune. I dont want my parents to worry about me and the bill.

      Jean, you didn't say how old you are but if you are on your parents insurance, how about just telling them you feel run down and would like to get a checkup from your family doctor.  You can tell the doctor the whole story and he/she at least can rule out the more serious causes, and maybe it could be something that could be helped with meds if its migrane, or sinus, etc.  Somehow you have to go down the path to go through some testing.

    I have the same thing some times. Not very often, but I have had it before when I wake up, when I'm stressed, or when I'm just fine. There would be times when I was talking to one of my sisters or playing a game and then the pain would just randomly happen.

Then my neuro surgeon prescribed me "Tegrital 100mg" for 30 days and post which i never faced the problem again, i hope you can imagine how wonderful im feeling without the pain i've no words to describe it. The way you need take the medicine is 1 tab everyday at night for the first 5 days after that 2 tab everyday morning and evening for next 5 days post which thrice a day for next 20 days and trust me everything would be fine i hope this would definitely work.

    Still no diagnosis.  All I hear is "I can send you back to the neurologist"  or "but you had an MRI and you have nothing fatal"!

    I think there is a possibility it has something to do with my neck.  Its been getting worse over the past year.  It wakes me up in the night quite often and is always there when I wake up. I often have a LOT of neck pain and stiffness when I wake up.  The throbbing in my head is not painful, just feels like my pulse beating hard!.  But the next pain is real.  Sometimes if I move my head down, or back to stretch my neck the pulsing and throbbing in my head stops.

    Thats why I think it might be a herniated disk in my neck.  But what is the treatment for it?  Is there any?  I've tried massage, but that doesn't get to the root of it.

    My doctor said not to go to a chiropractor because when you get to a certain age with osteoporosis, it can fracture something.

    I too have been having this problem and it had been irritating me for far too long, around last August or so I hit my head in the shower, later that day I started getting really bad shooting pains in the left side of my head. The next day the pains continued, but I decided to keep it to myself, after about a week or so the paid shifted to my right side where I initially hit my head (top right side) and it was a weird fullness and dull feeling, like there was something there, but there was no lump, and no bruise. And I have been dealing with this fullness feeling and random pains since last August. And just today, right now actually I have kinda a irritating pain on the top left side of my head, it does not feel great. Yes I am worried about this a lot, but my cowedice to tell anyone fare outweighs my ability to tell anyone. And I'm case anyone is wondering I am an 18 year old male.

    I also have been having a headache for lil over a month or near there. When the pain starts, it is hard to tell where it starts. I do not get a upset stomach or want yo vomate but if I was to rate the pain on a ain level, then it would b between a 12-18. Can't tell where it starts but it ends up from the back of my neck to the front of my eye. The pain is massive at times. Today I had two of them in one day n it usually never happens like that. I had to leave work early cause of the pain. What could be causing them?!!!!

    I've had this for over a year.  Throbbing in the back and sides of my head.  But it is not painful at all, and mostly occurs when I am lying down, especially when I first wake up.  It usually goes away after I get up in a few minutes.

    I had every test in the book, but I am pretty sure what it is (since I tried everthing else)

    Usually the throbbing is accompanied by neck pain and soreness in the muscles in the back of my head.  I went for a neck and upper back massage three times.  All of a sudden, about a week ago, I realized the throbbing was gone and so was the neck pain.  Not sure if it was one thing, or a combination - new, softer mattress, new down pillow and the massages.  But so far - it is gone!  Thank God!

    For the last 6 months i get a headache over my right eye. It just pops up. Within an hour my neck hurts on the same side. Sometimes the two last fingers on my right hand go numb and sometimes they dont. I had an MRI 3 months ago. All they told me was they found "a small something" ...their words. Told me to come back in 3 month's for another scan. I go in 2 days for my next scan. They gave me a migraine medicine for the pain but my arthritis meds help more than this does.

    I just wanted to share my experience with anyone else who had googled their symptoms and ended up on this page like I did.

    Just over two months ago I started getting severe pain in and around my right eye. Within a few days my vision seemed a little off and I started getting a bad headache. Every single day since then I've had a headache and pain on the right side of my head and around my right eye. I tried a few things on my own in the first few weeks: 1) only wore my glasses for a week instead of contacts 2) stopped using my iphone/tablet except to make calls 3) bought special yellow tinted glasses to lessen possible eye strain from TV/computer use. Nothing worked.

    I went to my eye doctor who checked my eyes and everything appeared fine, although he did alter my contact prescription by a two strengths in each eye and scheduled me back in a week. That didn't work. He altered them again and suggested I try some stronger allergy meds in addition to my daily allergy pill, thinking it was sinus related. After another week neither of those things helped so I scheduled an appointment with my primary care doc.

    After telling him my symptoms he immediately thought my headaches/eye pain was due to stress and jaw clenching. I was skeptical but since I have always had TMJ symptoms (that I never addressed) I decided to take his advice and schedule an appointment with my dentist to be fitted with a mouth guard to see if that would help. Over the last month I went to my dentist, who referred me to a TMJ specialist, who then referred me to a sleep clinic to do a sleep study so that the expensive mouth guard I needed could possibly be covered by insurance.

    The first appointment I could get with the sleep doctor, for just a consultation, was a month out, and all the while my headache has been getting worse every day. Some days so bad I'd have to lie in bed in the dark because it was too painful to try to focus on anything else. I decided to make an appointment with a random eye doctor because I felt like the headaches were stemming from an unknown pressure behind my eye and I felt like the first eye doctor wasn't very thorough. He, also, slightly adjusted my prescription and had me wait a week to see if that helped. A few days ago I had my followup appointment and he seemed concerned that the headaches were still present, so he decided to order a head CT to make sure there were no masses causing the pain. I was relieved, after spending two months with a severe headache I had come to accept that I had a tumor of some kind. After all my internet "research" I had concluded that I most likely had a pituitary tumor. I figured even if the CT confirmed I had a tumor I would at least be able to stop stressing about the unknown.

    Luckily I was able to have the CT that same day. Yesterday, which was the following day, the eye doctor called me first thing in the morning. When I saw his office number come up on my phone my heart sunk a bit, I figured it had to be bad news if he was calling me so soon. It turns out my head CT was completely normal. Funny thing is, since that call yesterday my headache has been better than it has been in 2 months. It's still there, but barely noticeable.

    I'm telling this story because I think people should know how much anxiety and stress can mess with your body. You don't have to be a hypochondriac to let anxiety create real physical symptoms. My PCP knew I had a history of anxiety and likely gave me the correct diagnosis right off the bat. I think what happened is that two months ago I had overexerted my eyes one night while messing on my phone for several hours and had caused some mild eye strain. For the next few days I spent a lot of time focusing on the pain in my eye and that probably started causing tension headaches. About a week later a family member died and the stress of that likely caused me to start clenching my jaw at night which just made the headaches worse. Both my dentist and the TMJ specialist said I had several signs in my mouth that I was clenching my jaw but I couldn't believe that simple jaw clenching was causing my horrible headaches. It became a vicious cycle where every day I would get anxious that I still had a headache and the anxiety would cause more tension and make it worse. I was honestly convinced I had a brain tumor. At one point I looked up flights out of the country because I wanted to have one last hurrah before I had to start treatment, lol.

    So, just relax. The chances that you have something seriously wrong with you are very slim. That's not to say it's impossible but there's no point worrying about it until you have solid evidence that there's something seriously wrong. A simple phone call telling me my head CT was normal left me feeling better than I have in months. Try doing whatever you can you stop "thinking" about the pain/headaches and see if that helps. Good luck to you all.

    I am also having problems with my head right side only. It occurs most often and I am so scared I might have tumor. I can't visit a doctor to have a CT scan or MRI due to financial reason.
