Randomly Gone Short Sighted

Hi,

For the past couple of months i've been experiencing low mood and depression which has brought on a lot of symptoms.

During this time i had started to notice my vision going blurry. Yesterday i went and got my eyes checked and they had told me i'm short-sighted.

I'd like to know if this is anything due to the depression/anxiety/worry, will it go or is there anything i can do to clear my vision such as diet or supplement (other than wearing glasses). Or could it be caused by frequent use of the computer at work?

Before this episode of depression i have always been healthy, sporty and in-check. I am 22 years of age.

Hi I was diagnosed shortsighted about your age too...I was employed into computers....of course I am 66yrs old now and have worn glasses for many years now...it isn't a big thing honest....please don't get anxious about it...you can get glasses or most prob being young contact lenses...it will correct your vision....everything will be ok....computers do tend to damage your eyes with long usage....enjoy life....shortsight is a major problem....good luck....😊

Hi Joel - My heart goes out to you because depression/anxiety is a difficult situation to deal with. However, I do not believe this has anything to do with your eyesight. As we age, our vision naturally changes. Some people are lucky and have no problems, others notice changes later on usually when they hit their 40's. Then others, like you, just experience prescription changes early on. I'm assuming your optometrist recommended glasses (or contacts)? There are many cool styles of glasses and contacts are easy to wear!

If you've not already done so, I also highly recommend that you practice breathing techniques, journaling, meditation, or even just taking a slow daily walk outside to help with your anxiety. There are plenty of books and youtube videos that will also help you find the technique that works for you. And, of course, see your doctor about depression - we can't always kick that dark cloud without medical intervention. Note, I'm not a doctor or medical professional but I've dealt with anxiety all my life (aaack!). You will feel ok again, so hang in there! Sending you positive, healing thoughts.

If you have only just noticed your vision going blurry from normal vision, you need to see an opthalmologist who can check your eyes thoroughly. Also, I would recommend seeing a neurologist if the ophalmologist finds nothing, there are certain neurological disorders that can affect your vision and mood. Do not leave this, it is not normal for someone to suddenly go short sighted.
