All drugs come with side effects and the only experts on side effects and compatibility are Pharmacists.
Always pose you question to your Pharmacist, even when it has been prescribed by your GP. Compatibility is not there field. In fact , use the same pharmacy and get to know your Pharmacist.
This also applies when buying over the counter or homeopathic medications.

I am taking Ranitidine. I haven't noticed any side effects yet but I did take them for a long spell a few years ago and developed red patches on my torso. They didn't itch or hurt but they did look horrible. My GP wouldn't commit himself as to the cause but they went away a few days after I stopped the Ranitidine.

It's certainly not as bad for you as PPIs. It's been around for a long time. I have used it in the past, not while on pred, but only for a short period of time. Yes, best to check with pharmacist who will know if this drug can be taken long term. PPIs are often prescribed long term but when I looked up Omeprazole it definitely stated it was for short term use only. It can make developing osteoporosis more likely. I don't think the osteoporosis side effect is as issue with Ranitidine.
I assume you are on a medication because just taking food, like yoghurt, isn't working well enough for you?

no i had taken mtx in the morning and one hour later i had pains in my burning pains in my chest, then i had a glass of warm water thinking i had heartburn. I started burping and the pain eased, but then it started and went on for a few hours , so off to docs and she said it was acid reflux

That sounds most unpleasant. Hope you get things sorted soon.
Should have said, many years ago when I had a very bad reaction to naproxen (now otc as aleve) I was prescribed ranitidine (it was still a prescription med then) plus tums to deal with it. Have used ranitidine on and off since then with no problems, found it helpful, but I have no experience of taking it long term.

HI. I have GCA/PMR since Aug. '17. started on 60mg preds. & ACTEMRA - once weekly injection. Now on 1mg ... I have been on RANITIDINE This whole time and have had no problems. I take my preds in the morning and RANITIDINE after dinner in the evening. Helps me sleep through the night without stomach problems. It works for me and my doctor recommended it. Do check with your doctor. As for me, it works great.

When I need antacid medication that is what I use - it is sold OTC as Zantac. It has far fewer side effects than omeprazole but does near enough the same thing.
