    Hi gillian1900,

We note from a recent post which you have made to our forum that you may be experiencing thoughts around self-harm. If we have misinterpreted your comments then we apologise for contacting you directly. But if you are having such thoughts then please note that you are not alone in this, and there are people out there that can help.

If you are having these suicidal thoughts then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help. The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.

Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: https://patient.info/health/dealing-with-suicidal-thoughts, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.

If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you're going through and will be able to help.

If you are based outside of the UK.

The Samaritans is a UK based charity, but they also have suggestions for how you can access help in other countries.

No, Not having suicidal thoughts. Although my previous suicidal thoughts, for me personally , did not mean I was going to commit suicide.

I've been on fluoxetine 20mg for nearly 9 weeks and the first 7 weeks was hell and I mean hell!! My anxiety was so much worse I had panic attacks more regularly even in the middle of the night, sweats, vomit, nausea, racing heart, sore muscles and headaches and I was just so on edge all the time I hated it I just constantly felt scared. I stuck through the side effects as my doctor said things can get a bit worse before it gets better as your body adjusts to new medication which makes sense because it's changing brain chemicals, give it some time but if it's not manageable try and get something to take the edge off for the mean time x

Thankyou, I feel a bit more relieved now. its strange that even though you may have a good idea what (and why) these awful and debilitating side effects happen, you still need reassurance.

Did you by any chance get a massive craving for sweet and carbohydrates? I cant stop eating sweet items! And, consequently putting on weight!!

Are you feeling a bit better now? I do hope you are. And thankyou again for your support.

Yes I still have a bit of anxiety and anxious thoughts but they pass and I can manage it more, I still get the odd headache and panic symptoms but nowhere near as bad hoping it settles down more as time goes on but glad I stuck with it. Although I drank alcohol last weekend so this is probably why I'm a little anxious again. And oh god yes my eating is a lot better and I eat much more for me though I need to put it on so its a good thing for me but I know for some people they don't want this side effect

Gillian-I went up to 40 mgs fluoxetine from 20 about 3 weeks ago & I am feeling awful.I too need to hear from others that this is normal & will get better. my appetite is shot, I'm feeling so sleepy & lethargic. My anxiety especially in the morning is BAD. I need to know how long before I feel better? Have been trying to get in touch with my Psychiatrist but she's not returning my calls.
