Rash??

Hi all,

I've now been off of Celexa/Citalopram for one week after only having been on it for 6 days. I had came off of it due to the side effects I was having - Muscle twitching/spasms, burning skin, insomnia, crazy anxiety, and joint pain. Oddly today (7 days after being off of it), I developed a rash on my stomach. I am wondering if I could still be having a reaction to the medicine, and if anyone has had a similar rash during or after taking this AD? I've included a picture of it. I am also still having some joint/muscle pain. Is this all normal? If anyone could give any clarity, I would greatly appreciate it!! image

Thank you for the reassurance. You are so helpful with your advice on many of our questions! Do you think its normal to still have the rash and joint/muscle pain a week after discontinuing it? Since I had only been on it a week... Mentally and energy wise I feel much better. It is the rash and moving muscle/joint pain that is still lingering...

Difficult to say - you weren't on it that long and wouldn't have thought you'd have much problems with withdrawal ..... if any at all. But that's not to say this isn't withdrawal symptoms because we all react differently and some people are more sensitive to the meds than others.

If the rash hasn't gone by Monday it might be worth checking it out with your Doctor.

People who take the meds a long time can get withdrawal for some time long after they've stopped meds, but usually thats because they haven't withdrawn properly.

Joint pain and rash (plus the others you said) are some of the side effects you can get with these meds (the side effects do wear off when on meds), so maybe its just a delayed effect and hopefully they'll clear up soon.

Not everyone gets the same side effects and some suffer more than others. They are weird meds.

Sorry you couldn't try further with the meds and sometimes it helps to start on a really tiny dose, building up over many weeks/months, or even a different medicine because reaction can be different to other meds.

Hi Jenna/It is a shame that having side effects when you started and now having redrawal side effects also ,why did you start taken therm in the first place as side effects when starting to take them takes 8/10 weeks to build up resistance in yourbody

Well I began them because I was having some anxiety flares and worrying about health issues. My husband and I are ready to have more kids when everything clears over, and my doctor assured me at the time that there would be no side effects going on or coming off citalopram. After taking it a week and doing my research after feeling horribly worse, and two other doctors assuring me that she was wrong, I decided to stop taking it until I have a better informed doctor. I also decided I would wait until after having kids, if possible, so im not going on and coming off of them. I hope your journey has been well for you!

Hi Jenna/the doctor that you saw was right and wrong because every body is different so the body is difference ,hence you may not get side effects with some people was as others may give you side effects
