Rash after 8 weeks.

Last Thursday my physio noticed a small rash at the side of my scar. Said to keep an eye on it. Today,Monday,it has widened. Like small reddish spots. I am slightly reassured that there are similar smallish spots on the other unoperated leg. But has anybody experienced this before? Will be seeing my GP tomorrow.

    Are the spots ITCHY?

I developed a reaction to Neosporin and also Bactricin after our school nurse dressed cuts on my hand following a tantrum of one of my students several years ago. The infection was one issue, but my allergic reaction was a whole other issue.

Have you come in contact with any new lotion or soap?

    Just a thought...

      Hi Cheryl

No the rash near my right knee is not itchy, but I did have an itchy sensation on my left leg. I scratched it and can see where I scratched. Regarding new soap, etc. I have been showering twice a day,but using shampoo both for my hair and body. I thought myself this could be the problem,so will use something else. I have discontinued e45 and since then the right knee rash hasnt looked quite so bad. Thanks for your reply Cheryl, anything but my knee going wrong wouldnt be too bad.

I know what you mean! We get SO FOCUSED on our knee surgery and the recovery that the rest of our body takes second place!

I think we forget that we have undergone a GREAT TRAUMA with our knee surgeries! The body reacts to everything that happens to it!

The skin is our biggest organ, yet we are often surprised when we get a rash or some skin issue. Just THINK of all the things our skin contacts on a daily basis! It is a wonder that we all do as well as we do!

Let me know how things go, OK?

    Dear John,

I'm at 9 weeks and I also started noticing a small, itchy rash at the bottom of my scar where the skin is thinnest and closest to the bone. I have had double knee replacement and have it on both knees. I have continued to apply Vit. e and coconut oil because it feels a bit dry as well. My PT didn't seem alarmed. I have also applied a thin coat of hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching. I believe it has to do with the healing. I don't feel like it's an infection. Keep me posted. I'm so glad you posted this today. It's been a week now that I've noticed it and it seems to have sort of come and gone.

      Hi Lesa

The beauty of this forum is that there is usually someone with the same experience/come across the same problems. To be fair this feels a bit dry also so i may try what you did. But first i will see what she prescribes for me. Hopefully it IS to do with the healing as you say. We are very near to the same stage too. As said to Cheryl I will keep you informed but thanks ever so much for replying

      John.

Not a problem. Yes, we are very near the same stage of healing. Mine also feels rather dry, which is why I continue to put the coconut oil or Vit. e and then a little cortisone cream. Seems to help relieve the itching. I'll keep you posted , as well.

Glad you went and got some different cream and are off Tramadol. (Tramadol gave ME flulike symptoms without the fever!)
