Rash behind ear - what is it?

Does anyone know what this rash is behind my ear?
- I have had it for a few years and flares up around every 2 weeks for a few days then goes back to red and dry. There are times there are white pustules visible.
- I have seen a dermatologist but at the time it was not flaring up so was somewhat dismissed by them.
- I have been prescribed topical cream and have been using it for a year but no real difference.
This is a particularly bad flare up.

Hi LA1990, I have a rash and behind the ears is a spot where I have regular flare-ups. It looks somewhat similar to the one shown in your image: a rash that is first red and then dry scales are forming. It is not itchy but rather hurts when I try to remove the flakes.
In my case, it is Seborrhoeic Dermatitis which is exacerbated by a contact dermatitis. I treat it by regularly using a conditioner containing zinc pyrithione and avoiding contact with shampoos containing SLS (which irritate my skin). Btw, some people are allergic to the metal Nickel which can be present in earrings or studs.
