Rash from Dressing

This skin reaction I have had to the dressing covering my incision is still the worst part of recovery for me (surgery June 17).   I had the stapes removed and the reaction discovered July 7, one week ago today.  It seemed to be improving a bit but not lots.  A woman in my building is a nurse so I asked her to take a look and she thought it wasn't too bad but might be time for a cortisone cream.  So after many calls I finally got my family doctor to phone in a prescription and this nurse picked it up for me.  So far I can't say there is a dramatic improvement but I've only applied the cream twice so I need to give it time.  I have to be very careful to put just a thin layer on and they don't want it close to the incision because of chance of infection.....which really scares me!  Anyway, with luck this will be cleared up in the next while.

I should have thought of the cortisone cream ... as several members of our family have skin reactions that create blisters that need this. You are lucky to know a nurse who offered such good advice. I sure hope this works - no one needs any extra worries when on this journey.

    Hi Leslie,

checking in with you - hopefully the rash has calmed down -

funny how something like this can take over your whole experience - is it painful too? did it show up after the dressing was removed ?

maybe some aloe vera gel might help too -

    big warm hug

Thanks to you all for the comments about my rash.  This morning I woke up and the rash wasn't hurting so I think I'm making progress with the cortisone cream.  It seems to sting when the cream is applied, but I can tell that it is much less red than it was a couple days ago.

It did show up after the dressing was removed.  I new it was sore there but I assumed it was the staples.  I think it was the rash/reaction to the dressing.

I have been very afraid of infection.  I'm not to put the cream too close to the steri strips, etc.  But it's looking ok.

    Thanks again.     Leslie
