Rash spreading across body

During the afternoon, around 3:30-4pm I noticed a rash on my left elbow. It is so bad it startled me when I saw it. My left elbow (and knees) become dry often so I was about to apply moisture to them, I looked at it through a mirror to see how dry it was and that's when the surprise came. The spots are very red, itchy, bumpy and quite close together, all across my elbow and slightly spread across my bottom arm. At the time I had nothing on my right elbow and I had it minorly on my right knee.

I now (at 12:00am, but spread throughout the day) have more on both knees. My front thighs which spread to my inner thighs, not shockily but quite bad especially since I had none in that area to begin with and it's the second worst area, nowhere near as bad as my left elbow though. Nothing on my face, except for spots. I have a really bad breakthrough of spots which is common for me, but I guess I wouldn't entirely know if I have any on my face. Don't really have much spot on my forehead though.

I now have it increasingly minorly on my right elbow. It's spreading on my hands, both palms, back of hands , fingers and wrists.

I think it's spreading to my back, but I'm not entirely sure, it's minor if so. A little on my bum. Nothing around my vagina. It's spread to my back calves, but not serious. It's on my feet, on the inner sides and between my 2 smallest toes. A little on my waist.

Currently it's my hands, elbows, thighs and knees that are itching. My elbow, understandably as it's pretty swarmed, was itching unbearably.

Honestly though, I don't go out much so I don't feel as though it would be scabies but I wouldn't rule it out. I have been affected by a dry left elbow and knee for a while now and only recently has my right knee been affected too.

I've been to the doctors in concern about coeliac disease before, I didn't chase up my concerns after the first visit as my doctor was just rubbish and it takes a lot of motivation for me to go by myself in the first place let alone chase something up. But it could be a possible reason that I'll have to pluck up some courage and investigate.

Also, I've come off some tablets for urine infection (day before yesterday -as in 8/8/14- was my last), so I'm not sure if that's a reason.

Also, night before I used my sisters shower gel for the first time. Could be why it's spread across my body. There's no rash on my face, I wouldn't put it on my face. So could be a possibility.

This is so sudden. I didn't even notice the rash during the morning.

I'm not sure what it could be.

Hi, look on this link and see if you can find a picture of your rash.

It sounds like either an allergic reaction or something like chicken pox.  You really ought to see someone.  You could try a Pharmacist first but really, you should see a doctor

      Hi,

Thanks for your help. I went to the hospital and they told me it's probably an allergic reaction. They gave me an injection for it and it's fading now.

      Thanks for responding,

Hi Ree, I'm glad it has been sorted.  You will probably need to find the cause now.  Good luck.

Thank you. I think it was a shower gel I used. Everything else I've used before, or I've used since, but I hadn't ever used that shower gel before and I haven't used it since and the rash is fading so that's the most obvious thing it could be smile

Although I am aware that you can become allergic to things that you weren't previously allergic to.

      Thanks for your support smile

Have you looked at the shower gels ingredients and is there something 'different' in it?

I haven't looked at the ingredients. Didn't think about doing that. I'll look at them and compare them to various shower gels as I've used a lot of different shower gels and have never reacted to any of them so might be helpful.

    Hi Pandora ~

One thing hit me when I was reading your post.  Does the medication you were taking for a urinary tract infection have sulfa in it?  It sounds to me that you may be suffering from hives?  It's a possibility since the drugs you take for a UTI can bring on hives.  Hopefully, within a day or so, they should go away if indeed it is from the medication.  Try not to rub on them or itch them as you could get a secondary infection.  Let us know what the outcome is.  Hoping you are well soon.

      Hi,

Not sure what was in there. I didn't check, as I had never reacted to medication before.

Also, I probably should have said(I'm not sure if I did), my rash had gone a few days ago so it's alright and I do think it was the shower gel smile Thank you for your concern smile

      Hi Pandora ~

You may want to phone your pharmacist and ask if the medication you were taking had sulfa in it because it truly sounded like hives.  I cannot take the medications for UTIs because I will always react to the meds with hives. That's the reason I think you may want to know so if it happens again, you can tell the doctor you had a reaction and they will give you a different medication.

Okies, good luck and I hope you're feeling better!
