RE:Dizziness /Middle Ear

Hi all,

I read through some of the posts and thought I would add this in hope that it may be of some help. When I have experienced an intense episode of dizziness the kind that makes the room turn upside down I found out it was caused by my middle ear. I was prescribed gravol which helped settle it down immensely.

    Hello Anne,

    Your welcome...

It helped both, the nausea in my case was caused from the dizziness. The equilibrium is thrown off with middle ear so it would be similar to being on a merry go round. so in my case that is why the gravol helped to settle it down.

thanks Penny, good news then,  i don't get nausea just long standing dizzy with balance problems so wondered if it might help alleviate the dizzy too, without affecting the compensation that all of us with this dizziness are experiencng.

Thanks Penny.  I shall ask my GP about this medication as I have recurrent dizziness and BPPV.

Hi Penny, so went to the local chemist and got my self some of gravol.

I have been having nausea and vertigo for the last 4 months.

All started after a heavy workout after which i felt like there was a pressure build up in my ear every now and then.

I had some major blurred vision issues, pain in the ear, a funny feeling like something was moving in the ear.

I have been following a lot of threads on this forum for a while, i did go to a ENT who had no idea as to what the issue was and was suspecting that i had damanged my ear cause of my workouts.

So now i am hoping Gravol helps ease the dizziness and nausea.

One quick question thought, what dosage did your doctor recommend? Each tablet i have has 50 mg of Dimenhydrinate.

    Thank you

      hello,

I am not certain about the dose because it was given to me at the hospital. I would check the reccomended dose on the package and just make sure that you don't have any underlying health issues that would cause any side effects. You could start off with half a tablet and see if that is of any help. From what I was told was in my case middle ear that was all that could be done to ease the symptoms. I really hope that you get some relief. Also with what you said about the swishing could it be water in the ear or tinnitus?

I don't think I had blurred vision from what I can remember.

      Good luck

Glad to help. I did have an after thought though. You mentioned that the ENT thought it was possible that you could of caused damage from a workout? Do they mean ruptured the ear drum? (I thought I better ask because with the middle ear I didn't have any pain involved just that the room was upside down with nausea and dizzinness I also didn't have very good balance at the time.) You might want to have a follow up just to make sure and to ease your mind if nothing else. I hope all goes well.
