Re-Started Celexa, not sure if it's working :-(

Hi everyone.

Here is my story. I was put on celexa when I was suffering insomnia. I was on 10 mg for 3 years. After I got married, my insomnia issues dissolved so I stop taking my celexa. Big mistake. I became the lunatic from the exorcist.

fast forward a year and a half later and I am now at 40 mg. I have no energy, passion, motivation or zest for life. I am neurotic and I fly off the handle. If I'm not numb I'm angry. I'm so angry.

Please help. I feel like I'm slowly losing my will to live as I feel either nothing or such a deep anger that I can't even understand :-(

Was this prescribed just for insomnia?  This medicine usually causes insomnia for many people (a side effect that wears off eventually).

How did you come off the meds?  Did you wean off or stop abruptly?  How long have you been back on it and how long have you taken 40mg for?

It might be the dose you're on thats making you feel angry, no energy etc - that's the maximum dose and it doesn't suit everyone.

Many years ago I was on a different SSRI and had to change because it gave me anger issues.  I was put onto Citalopram (Celexa).  I've been on this meds twice and the second time starting up I felt nothing inside for many months.  It righted eventually.

You should go back to see your doctor and discuss your doseage.  If you do decide to reduce maybe try 30mg first, and its best to do it by small amounts.

It was. My doctor had first put me on Xanax for anxiety, most of which was happening at night. While in school studying, I developed severe insomnia. He tried Ambien first but I noticed I was losing my memory so he switched me to celexa.

Thank you for the advice. I do have an appointment scheduled for next month, so I'm just trying to cope in the meantime.

Do do you think it would be alright to lower to 30mg safely on my own?

That's high at 40mg. Did you work up to that? I'd be at my Dr an tell all!!

I did work up to it. After I went back on the Celexa, the 10mg didn't even touch me at all. So my doctor moved it up until 20 but I still felt that wasn't working. 6 months later, it was up until 30.

Ill never forget him telling me that it was a matter of when, not if, I would find that I needed the 40mg.

So here I am again, wishing for the original help but it seems to really either not work or make me angry.
