Re-testing done..still no hearing loss but have MD in left ear

Hello Everyone,

I had repeat testing with another ENT in London, ON. They did the audio test, VEMP, and 10 types of different balance testing....was totally exhausted by the end of it all. They didn't do EKOG as they had it from my ENT who referred me over. After all these tests, they said I said no hearing loss but my left ear results were worse than my right ear. My symptoms of loss of balance, dizziness and nausea were all leaning towards MD....but because I wasn't on the line off hearing loss he said I'm a very complex and unique case as the diagnose is not straight forward. I told him that I have gone to many doctors/specialties....Neurologists, Endocrinologist, Internists, Homeopathy, Acupuncture. I need some help as I need my life back. He suggested we do the Transtympanic Injection where they make a hole in eardrum and fill it with steroids....at this time was willing to do anything. He said he might have to do this for the next few months but everytime they make a hole it affects hearing loss....If this doesn't solve the issue then he'll look into the other surgeries. After this injection, I've been very dizzy everytime i get off my bed feel like I'm going to fall and have been nauseas...My ear feels full of water and the noise is getting

worse. I'm scared now as not sure if any of you have had this done. Looking forward to hearing as I hope by trying this procedure I didn't put myself into further misery.

Thanks family for your

Reena

    Hi Reena,

i have had 4 steroid injections a week apart, they have been very successful in stabilising my symptoms but they did take time to work. Several weeks after the last injection.Try and be patient.

Hi Reena, I have had three transtympanic  injections nearly two years ago and they made quite a difference  to me. My balance got better, it didn't happen immediately as I was still a bit dizzy to start with .

      Thanks Reena

Hi Reena! Are you having loads of headaches that usually last less than a minute but feel like someone is squeezing your head? And when you go to sleep and you cover your ear, does it feel like you can hear your heartbeat? Like whoosh, whoosh. If you do it’s possible that you suffer from Vestibular migraines or migrainous vertigo. For the past year I have been having the same symptoms as MD but I also have no hearing loss, so was diagnosed with the Vestibular migraines. I am on betahistine 16mg x3 a day and Amytriptalin to prevent migraines.  I do feel a lot better, although recent cold (this virus going round) triggered an episode.

      Hi Yolanda,

Thanks for your experience, that's what they thought when it started last year in Feb 2017 that I have Vestibular Migraines and I tried the Betahistine 24 mg plus migraine medicine I believe it was the same as yours but it increased my symptoms....I did talk to the ENT in London about could it be Vestibular Migraines as I have some of the symptoms you've mentioned....but he said no for now. So not sure what I have:-( and when this will all be over. He said we'll discuss further when I go for the 2nd round of injections on Feb 27th. So far have been having a very dizzy N nauseas time with the injection that i got last week. I really appreciate all your support and wish you all the best also:-)

      Hi Yolanda,

You are the first person that I've seen on the same meds as I am. I have Betahistine 16mg x 3 & 10mg of Amitriptyline at bedtime. I described it to my GP as pins & needles in my head but sharp stabbing migraines is probably a better description. I take 2/3 paracetamol a day too as it dulls some sensations. I also sleep like a log so that is a benefit.
